Greetings ..
So long story short .. I'm looking for an alternative home protection device. We are not able to have guns in our home .. So I'm looking at a couple different options for protection for my family. I'm looking for your AEG Experts out there to give me your opinion on what model aeg I should look at. I want something full metal and/or as powerful as I can get it. From what I read I'll have to update the internal working with a better spring? I have my eye on the GG GR16 and the KWA KM4 ... would these be the two monsters? I don't want to spend the money on a systema piece. I wont shoot this thing much as all .. I'd obviously practice with it a bit to get accurate with it .. but it wont get much use at all so I'd rather have a heavy spring in it that could thrash the insides on heavy use since it wont get much use. So ... can I get your opinions? Give me your thoughts on what you would setup for a heavy duty/powerful M4. Thanks |

Knives are for champions of home defense. Grab a big ol' knife and get rocking and rolling.

A weapon should be used in defense with the intent to use lethal force. The moment a crook finds out it's not a real gun, you and the people you want to protect will be in extremely serious danger.
Get a Taser, learn to use it, get pepper spray as well. That's your best bet. Without turning this into a Second Amendment thread, I applaud your desire to not want to employ a real gun in home defense, but that means you really gotta be serious about your alternative/non-lethal methods. There's always Krav Maga, probably the most effective disable-your-opponent-and-end-the-fight-quickly martial art out there. -------------------- My current harem:

Kwa m4 on a 11.1v lipo unloading a mag will either make someone stop from pain or will just piss them off. These weren't designed for self defense but you could probably scare someone with them

As others have said, airsoft guns are not for home defense and will only piss the intruder off. Any who, if you still want to use an airsoft gun your best bet is the Strafer, which a moble BBMG. Fires very fast and you can adjust the FPS extremely high on it.

You have said you don't want opinions like the one I'm about to give you, but it's for your own good. PLEASE do not attempt using airsoft for home defense, by doing so you will be putting you and your family at greater risk. A scary looking airsoft gun may frighten off a 15 year old punk looking to score a tv but there's a chance it won't work on a thug that's a little more savvy. In fact it might get YOU shot. If you can't have a firearm, go for something else.
A knife is a good route, you have to get close to your assailant but all you have to do is touch him with it to inflict devastating damage. And additionally, if your attacker has ever seen a knife wound up close he may be a little more hesitant to approach. I have seen some terrible knife wounds and I tell you this, if u were attacked by 2 men, on knife one gun, the one with the knife would get shot first. Couple that with a GOOD tac light, prefferably one witg a strobe setting and the wife backing you with oc spray. A bat can also be effective but there isn't always room to get a decent swing. My first suggestion is a dog, not necessarily a big one, just a loud one. Intruders dislike anything that calls attention to their presence. Motion activated lighting and some $3 home security signs from the Home Depot are also good deterrants. Remember, that is your goal, not confrontation, but deterrance. Violence is always a last resort but if it's needed you need to have the means to meet and return it. Bottom line is this: airsoft guns are not weapons, they're toys. There are many better alternatives. Sorry to be so long winded, but I feel better now. This post has been edited by Bigfatts: Jan 25 2010, 11:13 AM -------------------- Field gun:

I've been shot point blank with 500fps. It hurt like hell, but it really did not do anything that would make me run away. Like everyone else said, airsoft guns are toys, they are not intended for home protection. Even an airsoft gun doing 750+fps will not do much.
I would suggest a paintball gun, and stick some marbles in it. I good hit to the head with a rock solid .68cal projectile at even 200fps will be far more effective then an airsoft gun. And you can get then to do 300+fps at 30 rounds per second.... That would be your best bet. |

Simply for liability reasons, we cannot have this thread open because it could lead to the assumption that we're trying to find a gun that will inflict damage on another human being in a serious fashion. Airsoft guns are toys, not weapons. I suggest you try self defense forums, not an airsoft forum where our goal is to have fun simulating military combat with non-lethal/safe gun replicas. Closed.
