ARMY R17 (Metal slide Glock 17)

Personal thoughts and Components: In these reviews I used my ARMY R17 pistol with Propane. During these test I used TSD white .2G BB’s. This is my first airsoft review, but it is definitely not my first airsoft gun. This will be my 8th GBB purchase, and I will compare its performance with those of my previous GBB’s. Cost: I ordered my ARMY R17 from ebaybanned. It cost me $67 shipped. The package came in 3 weeks after I placed the order. Very good customer service, ebaybanned has (said Yoda). Packaging: The gun itself came in a brown cardboard box that had a giant R17 labeled on it. It had no picture of the gun anywhere. Nothing special, it was, but it wasn’t screaming “I am gonna break” anywhere. ![]() Looks & Feel: Opening the box, past the instruction manual, past the ARMY product catalogue (which sports the Glock, L85, and get this… AK-47, and a DETONICS!!!! When will those two models be released? I don’t know), you’re looking at an incredible pistol. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you like the looks of Glocks then you’ll love the way this pistol looks. I compared it to a cousin‘s real Glock 22 and it looks almost the exact same except markings on the right side of the body. It had a red plug inside the barrel and was wrapped in aluminum foil to pass customs. It has a body of strong ABS plastic, a metal slide, and an ABS outer barrel. When you first pick the pistol up it of its box it feels pretty good, it’s once you insert the magazine that this pistol feels incredible. I haven’t been able to actually weigh them but feeling it in your hands the full-metal (apart from a couple small plastic pieces like the spring catch ect.) magazine feels like it’s as heavy as the Glock 22. Compared to KWA’s line of Glocks, this feels more solid than the G18c, but not as heavy as the G19 (both of which I have). ![]() ![]() Getting ready to shoot: I filled the propane. I held it on for around 10 seconds. After I heard the propane finish filling, I loaded 19 rounds in the magazine, even though it holds 25. It’s just something I like to do, not loading it all the way. It loads in your standard double stack formation. The loading valve does have a seal, so it is silent when you fill it up, unlike the KWA Glocks. ![]() ![]() Performance: I first went out and took some shots, and I was pretty surprised with the rate which I could fire off BB’s. Its trigger response is on par with my KWA M9 PTP; very quick and relatively easy. The recoil is a little bit crisper than a KWA G19 with a hurricane recoil spring. I was very pleased with the way this gun shot, especially out of the box. After reloading my magazine with more BB’s (19 rounds each fill), I continued to shoot. After about 4 ½ magazines through, I finally ran out of gas. This was in the middle of December around lunch time in Southern California. I guesstimate the temperature at around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Every now and then, I get a double feed. But as I shot more, it double fed less consistently. The slide does get stuck half way through a cycle of racked slowly, or if I shoot with little gas left in the magazine. I think it’s cool because it simulates a jam. my brother just got it chrono'd. 310 on a cold winter day ![]() Accuracy: Ok, well the first thing to do is adjust the hop-up it’s located in the slide, but you have to strip it down. The whole gun is modeled after Tokyo Marui’s Gen3 Glock 17. My back yard is about 30 feet long. With my hop-up off, it rarely curved. The wheel is pretty easy to turn. The sights are fixed, like the Tokyo Marui’s. This is a perfect gun for CQB, where quick shooting is your friend. I was able to hit a pint water bottle every time from across my back yard. ![]() Upgrades & Accessories: I’m not one who upgrades GBB’s. I’m sure aftermarket parts for the Tokyo Marui work in this gun, because my brother was able to fit a stock Tokyo Marui slide on his. I am pleased to see that my G&P M3 light fits perfectly on the gun’s rail. I also am pleased that it fit’s snugly into my Blackhawk Serpa. ![]() ![]() Re-cap: Cost: 15/10! You can’t beat $67 for a gun this nice! Packaging: 7/10 Looks & Feel: 9/10 Reliability: 8/10 (although after 500 rounds, VERY promising) Performance: 9/10 Accuracy: 9/10 Upgrades & Accessories: 9/10 Conclusion: 10/10 Pros: • Very good price $67 shipped. • Speculated to be TM compatible • Nice quality metal. • ABS outer barrel (still has trades, pro or con) • Crisp recoil • Amazing gas efficiency • Trademarks accurate on the left half of the gun • Working trigger safety • Good hop-up for a clone • Decent accuracy Cons: • Slide gets stuck in a certain position if racked gently/slowly • ABS outer barrel (still has trades, pro or con) • Inaccurate trademarks on the right half of the body (Internation Army Made in China, Gas Blowback System) • Trademarks laser-etched not engraved • A little bit shiny • No trademarks on the magazine. Final Thoughts: Overall, this is a great gun. It is WELL worth the money, and is a great starter GBB. I love it and am using it as my skirmish pistol. And although there are a lot of (cosmetic) cons, the pros DEFINITELY OUTWEIGH THEM!!! I recommend it to anyone.
