Hey guys

So I'm pretty new to airsoft, and I've only played about 10 times, but just at my last game, I realized something that might be handy to know for other airsofters.

Generally, most airsofters choose white .25g BBs for their AEGs (including me). I play outdoors and I find that the normal engagement distance is around 70-150 feet. For a gun that shoots around 300-400 FPS, using a .25, the time from trigger-pull to impact is around 1-3 seconds - give or take.
That being said, I've noticed that in that small amount of time while the BBs are still in the air, (if I'm lucky) I'm able to recognize the incoming 'white dots' and dodge them before impact. While this doesn't happen often, it isn't extremely uncommon either. I've managed to avoid getting hit by seeing traveling BBs a couple times and since I use white BBs in my own AEGs, I'd imagine that my targets are given the chance to dodge my shots before impact as well.

Another 'theory' of mine is that not only do the white BBs give your target a chance to duck & cover, but also help give away your position. Many times, I find myself in a great position, very close towards the enemy. However, I always find that once I start pulling my trigger, my targets can locate my position quite quickly. What I'm guessing is that not only does the sound from your AEG/GBB give away your position, but possibly your targets can locate you by the direction your 'white dot' BB's were shot from.

I've never really considered using black BBs, however I'd suppose that they would be superior in an outdoor game. While white BBs might be better for target shooting, zeroing, and plinking, black BBs might make it impossible for targets to dodge your fire & and prove locating your position a challenge during a skirmish.
Another benifit of black BBs is that they're cheaper than white BBs (correct?), so I think before my next game, I'll pick up a bag of black BBs and see how they perform. As we all know, the little things can make a big difference - even if it's simply switching the color of your BB.

Anyway, I might post another topic after my next game and tell the results of the black vs. white BBs. However, for the time being - I just wanted to know if other people use black BBs for similiar reasons.
