Today I have found out the intention of what to do to chat. I have found out that chat will no longer be here. Ive always thought of chat a place to talk about airsoft in general. Sure, it has had its rough days, but I don't think that means it should be gone.

So I would like a list of all of those who support the idea that chat should not be removed. Admin, if you need money im here to donate and im sure others would to.

Admin, this is serious. 20-30 people use chat on a regular basis, including forums moderators and admins, and taking it away has left us to sit in ASB chat, and their chat isn't as good as out chat was. I don't know if you think ASF chat was a waste, but to the 20-30 of us who used it on a daily basis, it wasn't, and isn't, a waste.

We need chat. It's a great place to go for instant help.

I always liked the chat and the way it was used to help people.People could get quick response, talk there problem out and just chat with other airsofters about 100s of topics in a hour.



I support and am also willing to donate money if the money for chat server ect is the issue.

Chat is where I felt I made the most impact. I was able to give purchase adice that would otherwise clutter up the board with Which gun threads... Got to know people on a more personal note... And I was mostly the oldest guy there, so I felt special.. Chat was such a great friend... I will miss it so.

I think chat was removed because of the constant problems with it rather than it being a waste. But either way, I loved chat and I feel like I was able to accomplish giving and getting advice there as well as giving and getting many laughs. I support the motion to bring back chat and will donate if necessary.

Ah, chat was really what got me to be a regular on this site. I have no problem donating to it or whatever it takes to get it back.

I, not half an hour ago, received some vital help from someone in chat. My battery crapped out on me so I want to chat for some help. I immediately received help from JDM_WAAAT. In the end, I ended up with a better battery than the one I started with.

Many of you know me as sumo337 on chat. I would love to have it back, it's the only chat that doesn't suck.

Admin, if it's such a huge issue we can go back to old chat (hopefully you backed it up). Hell, I'd even deal with New Chat at it's glitchiest.

Getting rid of Chat is like slicing ASF in two. To most chat regulars, chat is as large a part as the forum itself.

How much stress is the chat adding to the server?

I mean obviously the server has been overloaded for quite some time (regular peak-time crashes, random crashes, multiple-day outages)
So if nuking the chat helps that problem, I'm fine with that. I'd much rather be able to answer a PM whenever I log in (even during 4-11pm) than to have a chat feature operate that I never use.


So far all the opinions have been pro-chat... I'm just throwing in a different angle on things :)

In my opinion, thats not at all a good reason to keep the chat feature if it gobbles up bandwidth & server memory like I assume it does.

And how many times have you actually been in chat? Those of us that have been in chat have reasons for wanting it back. If you haven't experienced something sufficiently, maybe comments should not be made on it.

0. Many other people never use the chat as well. But they aren't posting here.
The only feedback admin is receiving from this thread is "Bring back the chat!" when in reality he's only getting the few people that actually use it., which proportionally is tiny compared to the total core or regular member group.
It's a heavy bias from the small sample of people who use it. I am just the first person to have a differing opinion... sorry to piss on everyone's parade and step outside the box, but many users (like me) don't care at all about chatting or answering noobie questions (lol I did more than my fair share answering noobie questions on this forum), I just want to sell stuff here. I socialize on AIM or facebook or PMs

If the chat feature takes up alot of memory, bandwidth, etc., and few people use it... then its a no-brainer to remove it IMO, as the majority of users do not use it.. but use the main forum features, like the BST... which draws most of the hits/visits to ASF, but is constantly down at peak and random times (due to server limitations) which is extremely frustrating for someone (like me) who paid for authorized seller status... when the forums are constantly down during peak times or after a daily bump in peak hours or randomly during a long post or PM.

Lol even between my two posts in this thread the server locked up again.

Chat might take up some space but it never goes down when the forum goes down so I don't even know if they are linked.And 500 users on forum and the 20 on chat causes it to crash is a little sketchy.

If chat isn't going down when the forum does, it's a good enough reason to leave it up. Atleast for discussions on "ZOMG TEH FOREARMS R DED." Enough of those posts still pop up after the forums DO come back online.

I do believe Admin should shut it down for a while, see if the problem is connected. If not, open it back up in a week or some type of predecided time frame.

I liked and used the chat, if anything it need more Moderators because some of the spam and shenanigans were getting a little egregious! What was nice about the chat was it was not permanent, you could share or ask questions with out crapping up the forum with lots of little threads. It was also a great way to bring attention to something in the forum with out bumping threads. However, if the chat is the reason the forum goes down almost every night between 6pm and 2 am EST then.............the community can go else where, or maybe we need a voice chat like ventrilo or team speak.

Forums go down just as much now even with chat taken down. Texas, since you haven't been in chat or experienced its usefulness I don't think you can give a worthwhile opinion on whether or not we should have it back. The only reason it went down is because it was upgraded and nobody liked it, not because of bandwidth issues. Don't assume, because it makes an :censored2: out of you and me.

It is not related.... It is not even the same server as far as I know... How can one be down and the other not be if they are on the same server..... Chat has been defunked for what a month now and the aite is still down at least 2x a week.


We are not looking to debate its importance to Everyone.. We are merely asking those that support it to sign this make shift petition...

If you do not want chat back, then this thread does not apply to you.. Chat was not a problem until someone decided it needed an upgrade... You cannot fix what is not broken....

Chat isn't a bandwidth leech, and if you were to take enough time to actually visit it, you'd notice it is an entirely separate domain. If you want to argue that it's a waste, you'd argue so based not on bandwidth use but the cost to Admin to keep the airsoftforum.NET domain. If you were to argue as such, your point would be moot nonetheless, since the flashchat system occupies a whopping 19.6 MB on a staggering total of two web pages.

We could always blackmail Vainguard into paying for chat.

Even though I havne't been on chat for awhile(due to school and the normal hectic days of my everyday life), I support his petition 200%.

Anyway, we really need our chat back. I feel our welcome to ASB's chat is wearing rather thin.

Why does this board have a chat section but no chat? Who is gonna look in the Chat section of a board that does not have Chat...

The reason this was in the General Section is to gain more support. The Chat forum is looked over like it isn't even here. Admin, if he ever checks these forums, is NOT going to check THIS forum. Whoever moved this is defeating the purpose of this thread. Move it back, please.

The staff is trying to get a hold of Admin so that he can address a few issues, this issue will be one. I am sure he will be directed to this thread if he is not then I will do it personally.
