I recently got a new TM M16a2 and was wondering if cold weather would hurt it (beaing that I live in michigan). I've heard stories about the mech box cracking in the cold. I can use all the help I can get. Thanks.

Just don't let your gun be exposed to the extreme cold from room temp or warmer and vise VERSA. Sudden compression and expansion is what can cause something to crack, break or become fragile which leds to something breaking.
