Logic for Cheaters to consider…

Sergeant Russell

Introduction:

You are in the middle of a game, you have lost horribly the last few rounds, and have only won one round, your magazine is running on empty, and you are right in front of the last four enemy players…all four wielding high powered AEG’s and holstering a nice gas pistol. You hear their plan to split up into two groups, one going to the near by bunker to watch for an enemy attack, and the other is to head towards the fallen 20 members that all need to be healed—so obviously one of them is a medic—, you hold your position until they move out. You stalk closely behind the two heading for the bunker and take them both out with two quick bursts after they are far enough away from the second team that help wouldn’t come. Now you hope that your team has held the other two enemies as you try to catch up to them…getting to them only to find that they had taken out three of your team mates and they are only 50 feet from the fallen members of their team. You take advantage of the fact that they still have a small stretch to run before getting there, and you take a dozen shots at the two, obviously hitting both of them, however, the medic runs to the bodies as you start shooting blanks and heals a few team mates…You Just Lost!

The Airsoft Purpose:

Japan is the country of origin for the airsoft rifle. Because citizens are not allowed to own fire arms there, a brilliant company decided that they could make a fortune by making a non-lethal weapon that could be used like a real fire arm…the concept of airsoft was born. So originally airsoft wasn’t intended to be any type of military simulation or battle toy, it was meant for self-defense and to be used to shoot for fun. However, airsoft guns soon spread all over the world, and many people saw the opportunity to change the original design of the guns to fit a different role, this would be for airsoft games and skirmishes. So lots of companies went and manufactured these new airsoft guns…now airsoft was going to boom.
Airsoft is NOT a military simulation, or a real life experience…it doesn’t even compare to one; it doesn’t require near the training of the body and mind that real military situations require. However, airsoft is supposed to somewhat resemble the art of war (To some extent), and the reason that airsoft exists is to provide a fun hobby for people that either aren’t old enough for the armed forces, chose not to join the armed forces, or are in the armed forces and still want to have some fun. Airsoft guns are being modified constantly to further resemble the real guns they are modeled after.
Airsoft games are played so that people can have an adrenaline pumping experience with “guns” while not having to worry about getting seriously wounded or dieing. As even a stupid man would notice, most airsoft games are played in such a way that they resemble modern, futuristic, or even past warfare; all being revolved around the same central purpose: to create a “War-like” experience for players (Which it really isn’t, but it ties in with the concept).

Airsoft + Cheating = Bad.

In a lot of airsoft games, you will find yourself in good cover and feeling quite safe from enemy fire, but there are occasions where an “unlucky” bb finds its way through all of the foliage and hits you SMACK in the face…No one saw it. No one heard it. No one even expected for a bb to penetrate that thick bush you where hiding behind… but it just did! What do you do? Are you going to play honest and call your hit? Or are you going to just say, “Maybe the bb hit a twig and the twig hit me.” or “ No one saw that, why should I get out!”…well which one?
Most people that claim that they want to join the Military in the future, or that just don’t want to loose their dignity to an airsoft game, would choose the first option, but anyone desperate to stay in the game and/or win is probably going to go with the second option, this can result in a very bad experience:

You are in the middle of a game, you have lost horribly the last few rounds, and have only won one round, your magazine is running on empty and you are right in front of the last four enemy players…all four wielding high powered AEG’s and holstering a nice gas pistol.

What are the side effects of such a situation? Well, even just the Medic cheating is going to cause a lot more people to be accused and even more to get angry. First, you just spent all of that energy and accomplished a fantastic feat, only to have the other team cheat, you are probably going to be mad, along with all of your teammates that just witnessed your team loose once again, and not because of a lack of skill but because of a cheater. Second, the medic is going to get hit hard with insults…and hopefully nothing worse…because he just cheated in a very obvious manner and not only didn’t go out but he went and healed his team mates. Next, all of the people that where healed can also be accused of cheating because they went along with the situation, though they are not always at fault because they may not have seen it happen. So, so far your whole team is going to start accusing the other team of cheating and your entire trust for their honesty that entire game was now lost, and people are considering the possibility that this isn’t the first for this game…also, the medic is obviously going to have a bad name for the rest of his airsoft career and probably wont be invited to as many games anymore; furthermore, any arguments, that went on after the experience between the two teams, will most likely escalate as it continues. Back on the field, there is one more problem, the medic is probably going to deny having felt, seen, or heard any of the bbs, and this is going to cause even more problems in this situation. One mans cheating is making it look not all that great for everyone else on the field.

Cheating Hurts:

After making a decision in the prior situation:

In a lot of airsoft games, you will find yourself in good cover and feeling quite safe from enemy fire, but there are occasions where an “unlucky” bb finds its way through all of the foliage and hits you SMACK in the face…No one saw it. No one heard it. No one even expected for a bb to penetrate that thick bush you where hiding behind… but it just did! What do you do? Are you going to play honest and call your hit? Or are you going to just say, “Maybe the bb hit a twig and the twig hit me.” or “ No one saw that, why should I get out!”…well which one?

There will be one of two possible consequences that occur:

#1: In the first possible response you could have made – the honest one – it would most likely have resulted in you leaving the field in a not so happy manner, and you probably still wouldn’t have been satisfied for a while afterwards because you got out, however, your popularity with local airsoft players as an honest player has just increased and you have just made someone’s day a little bit better. Later on you will be happy that you didn’t cheat and you will most likely be satisfied when you see others follow your example. You have just preserved your dignity as an honest airsoft player.

#2: In the even that you chose to use the second response – the not so honest one – you will probably find yourself with a guilty feeling later on. You just wasted someone’s bbs and battery power, as well as their time. You are not proving that you are any better because you can hide behind a bush or tree and not get hit, and getting hit while in cover doesn’t prove in-experience. In the event that you are seen cheating, you will probably be held responsible for it for the rest of the time you play airsoft, after all, everyone has a reason to blame you of all people for cheating now…even if you weren’t, as long as they are mad they will use the possibility for cheating as an alternative to wining about the in-ability of their weapon or some other stupid excuse for loosing. In the worse case scenario, other people are now going to decide that it is ok to act the way that you just have and there will most likely be more cheating going on. You have just lost your dignity as an honest airsoft player and have influenced other cheating to inevitably take place on the field.

People Hate Cheaters…. It is just a fact of life, and your cheating will forever be held against you as a reason for them loosing your you getting a kill, and you will never get credit from anyone for doing something amazing again…that is if they catch you cheating—the problem here being that people don’t understand that scientific studies show that after doing something 3 times it becomes a habit, and cheating isn’t a good habit to get into, so even if you are not caught cheating, it has a negative effect on you. You may soon find yourself not being invited to games or being blamed or laughed at a lot, and people, sadly, will talk about it behind your back…it is the nature of all humans.

What Jerry Says about it:
These are some brief guidelines written by JerryAgent, about sportsmanship.

QUOTE
Sportsmanship
It’s a sport, so be a man about it.

I’ll repeat what I said earlier. Airsoft is a game of honor; if you can’t be honest then you shouldn’t be playing it. There is no better way to ruin a game of airsoft then to cheat.

If you have an issue with a player, either because they are cheating or being unsportsmanshiplike, tell the player first. It may be that they didn’t know that they were hit. It happens a lot, a bb will hit your pouches and you won’t feel a thing. That is why you have to rely on your assailant’s testimony. Give them the benefit of the doubt and call yourself out.

First thing to do is bring the issue to the player you have the issue with. If you cannot resolve it yourselves, then bring it to the ref. The ref has absolute authority, like in any sports, and whatever he/she decides you must respect. If the ref cannot help, then bring it to whoever sponsored the event after the game. If the offense was serious enough, a player may be banned from the playing field, or not allowed to play for a few games. Cheating players get banned, no excuses.

Here are some examples of situations that may arise.

Situation: You are at a 40-person game. You and your eight man squad come to a small creek, suddenly, two players with AEGs open up on you from up the creek. Three of your squadmates are hit. It is then you realize that the players that opened fire are on your team. What do you do?

What Not To Do:
A: You scream different profanities and return fire. Even after hitting one of the players, you keep firing.
B: You take cover and wait it out. You take it out on the two players after the game in the safe zone.
C: You are hit, a few seconds later you scream out "Friendly!" Dead men don't talk, even friendly fire.

The Right Thing To Do:
A: As soon as you recognize they are friendlies, you yell out "Friendlies! Hold Fire!" You save the four other lives in your squad. After the game, you either apologize for being in the wrong area at the wrong time, or forgive the two with AEGs.

Situation: You and your buddy are hunkered down, using a fallen tree as cover from the heavy fire. The fire dies down, and your buddy decides to return fire at that moment. As he leans out around the tree, he is hit twice in the shoulder and chest. Instead of calling himself out, he returns fire on his assailant and gets him out. What would you do?

What Not To Do:
A: You ignore it because he is on your team.
B: You think, "It's not my fault he is cheating" and ignore it.
C: After the game, you go up to your friends when your buddy isn't around and talk about how he cheated.
D: You call for the game to stop and tell the person that was shot by your buddy he isn't really out.

The Right Thing To Do:
A: You tell your buddy as soon as he was shot that he is out. He may not have felt the shots, either from the adrenaline rush or his vest. You let the person that was shot by your buddy go out, stopping and explaining everything would disrupt the game even more.

Situation: You are alone. Your cover is a tree and a thick bush. As you wait, a lone sniper walks by about 50 ft away. As soon as you have a shot, you open fire with a long burst. Almost every shot hits him and you hear the sniper cry out "Ow." However, instead of calling himself out, he falls down in the bushes and creeps away until he has a clear shot. You see him stand up further away and he takes a shot at you. He hits you in the hand, which starts to bleed. The sniper starts running away. What do you do?

What Not To Do:
A: You yell out to him "Dude, WTF IS YOUR ****ING PROBLEM" and get up and walk back to your team where the firefight is.
B: You open fire again on him.
C: After the game you talk about the cheating sniper to everyone but him.

The Right Thing To Do:
A: When you hit him the first time and see he doesn't call himself out, you yell "You are HIT." Then he hits you in the hand. Call yourself out, even though the sniper is cheating. After the game, follow the steps above to solve the issue. Bring it to the player, then the refs, then the field/event host.

Situation: You are at your friend's house. He tells you that his goggles fog too much so he is just going to wear his glasses. What do you do?

What Not To Do:
A: You shoot his glasses to test if they are strong enough. They break.
B: You assume he'll be ok and play a game resulting in the loss of your friend's vision in his left eye.
C: You play a game, and nothing bad happened. You decide glasses are ok and keep playing.

The Right Thing To Do:
A: You refuse to play with your friend when he just has his glasses on. You say your goggles don't fog as much as his, and you trade off. Foggy vision is better than the guilt of knowing your friend is half blind because of you.

Situation: You are at a party at a friend's house. They all decide to stake out the neighbor kids house with their guns and shoot him when he comes out to go in his hottub. What do you do?

What Not To Do:
A: You go along with the plan, and the neighbor kid gets a bunch of welts.
B: A police car cruises by and sees a bunch of kids with guns around a house. The policeman calls for backup and soon the SWAT team arrives and arrests everyone.
C: You tell them they're crazy and stay inside and play your friend's 360.

The Right Thing To Do:
A: You go to your friend's parents and tell them their son's plan. It is up to you how you will do this without letting everyone know you spoiled their fun. You then show them ASF and have them read this guide, where they see this example.

Remember these few things and you will be ok:

-Each field has its rules, make sure you know them and follow them.

-Clean up after yourself, no littering on the field (besides bbs).

-If someone says your hit, no matter how ludicrous it may be, call yourself out.

-Always be polite on the field.

-Don’t be a sore loser, and don’t be a bragging victor. Nobody likes to hear how you took out the whole
team with your spring P99. Save it for later.

-Be gracious to everyone, including your command and teammates.

-Jesting and friendly insults are fine, but don’t overdo it.

-Use safety and discretion when firing. If you have a 600 fps semi-automatic gas rifle, do not open up on
someone’s face wearing goggles 30 ft away.

-One reason to instantly stop a game, a player does not have his eye protection. I have been hit in the eye, twice, and it is not something I would wish upon anyone (miraculously my vision is undamaged). Glasses DO NOT count. Low quality mesh masks have been known to break so be careful.

-Never say bad things about a player behind their back.

-Regardless of the circumstances, if you are hit, then you are HIT.

-No matter WHAT, safety comes FIRST.

Now that you have read this guide, you should have sufficient knowledge of how an airsoft game functions. Thank you for reading. Any suggestions or comments you can PM or email me.

Cheating in Conclusion:

Even though airsoft isn’t a real military simulation, and to some may not even seem close to being so, it is still a game where honesty matters most…and to be a cheater in an honest mans game is not only bad for the other players but it is bad for you. Everyone has cheated once or twice before, whether it is on purpose or on accident, it happens, but when it comes to the point where you aren’t learning from the experience to NOT cheat, you have lost the initiative…I will admit to cheating when I first started airsoft, I would ignore hits that didn’t hurt and not call them…having grown more mature about it I call them, and I am sure that most mature airsoft players do as well; just as well as all players have stories that they can share that prove their honesty to other players, for instance, once in a game I was in cover behind a ridge facing a large retention pond, where the other team was crossing about 100 yards away, I was perfectly dug into the side of the hill and ready to ambush the enemy when they got closer, however, one of the kids started firing a really cheap crosman full auto pistol straight up into the air…somehow gravity lead at least 2 dozen of them on to my head, neck and shoulders, no one saw but I called the hit and sat out the rest of the round. Not cheating has its advantages, because knowing that you played fairly allows you to know that whatever the case was involving cheating, it wasn’t your fault, and it also allows for you to inspire other players not to cheat.
