Unfortunately, as soon as it gets pinned, it basically gets a sticker slammed on it saying 'Nobody is gonna read this!' :'(

But nice find, Lloyd...as clear as it could be :)

I remeber asking this question back when the dumb questions forum was still open, and ScienceNerd gave me a really nice link. I can't find it now though, maybe I'll message him and ask...

*EDIT* Found it!

I hate it when people get mad at people who say "clip" when they actually mean "clip".

It only happens if people are talking about the part of their airsoft gun that would be considered a "clip" in real life. blink.gif

This boasts a very true point, and like that linked article states, calling a magazine a clip is like saying socks when you mean boots. For the one who posted "Who gives a rat's ***" You should, because if you are an actual serious airsoft player and you make it to a large tournament, by using this terminology wrongly, it will let people know really quickly what your intelligence level is when it comes to weaponry. Airsoft is meant to be realistic, hence why the firearms are actual replicas, so if you don't have the mechanics down, or you don't know the difference between something like this, you are barely out of jungle when it comes to being serious about your hobby.

Way back when I attended the academy if you made reference to a Magazine as a clip you ended up wearing a chip ( Potato chip ) clip somewhere on your person. Everytime you called it a clip it was one clip added.

What if the chips got cracked, fell apart, or were eaten?

I've always felt it's ok to call a magazine a clip in most settings. Why you ask? Because it's more of a slang term then any thing else. Up till WW2 most of the boys in the military used these little things called clips in just about every gun they got issued. Once we got into WW2 they started using these newer guns with little things call magazines in them. Now to them a clip or a magazine was just a way of getting bullets into your gun, and the terms would have been interchange able.

I mean in a fire fight when Pvt Sonso is using Sgt Runngun's Tommy after having used an M1 for ever and he looks over at Pvt Gotchasome and says: "Hey man you got some clips for your Tommy I'm almost out?" Do you thing Gotchasome is gonna take time to inform Sonso that the Tommy guns are not like the M1s and with them you use these things call magazines, because if you look at them you can see that they are more like a box of ammo that you stick in your gun and not just bullets on a stripper?

No he's gonna say yeah here ya go man. It's just like how bullet proof vest for the longest time where called Flak Jackets even though they stopped more then just flak, sure there is a difference but in the end every one knows what your saying.

Really when some guy says "Hey how did you get your two clips to fit in the pouch." Do you know what he means? If so then why do you have to take 5 min to tell him the correct terminology other then to boost your own ego, and make him feel bad?

a-salute.gif I salute you, sir, you have saved this thread from a very angry post by yours truly haha. saying clip when you mean magazine doesn't demonstrate a lower level of intelligence in any respect. First of all, they are both now used in a slang sense of the term, secondly, if you say clip when you mean magazine, you are still technically correct, considering the clip is inside the mag... anyways, people shouldn't get so worked up over this, whoopdeedooo, whos to say they do know the difference but don't care which term they use? like me, for instance lol

now what I cant stand is when people say "I unloaded a full round of ammo blahblahblah" really? a full round?! holy $h1T thats 1 shot! not 30 or whatever you think it is a-censored.gif

ok, here is my professional opinion....a magazine is anything with all sides enclosed that stores ammunition, so a ships magazine or a building thats stores ammo, or even your closet that hold syour pistol and ammo (real) is a magazine (thats pushing it but it fits the definition). where as a clip is just that, a clip, it holds the ammo together so they don't fall but does not enclose the ammo. before you go and say that "the top is open on a glock mag" only when it is out of the weapon and all magazines that I know of have doors so you can get the stuff in and out of them.

also the slang term is "mag" not clip since clip is an official term of the proffesion it can't be slang it is just misused slang is a modification of a given name or word.

Actually from what I have heard it the difference between a mag and a clip is where in the english speaking world you are located.
Americans tend to stick with magazine while the British tends to use the word clip.
I am guessing it is different like truck and lorry, although I prefer truck in that debate heh.

At the end of the day... Does it really matter in airsoft? I have yet to see any gun loaded with a stripper clip.

I've made a stripper clip for my GBB's before. It was handy. I got the loading tube and a small bit of paper and tape. Put paper on one end, taped it, filled it with BB's and then did the paper and tape thing to the other side. On the field, I could just pop it out, put it on top of my mag, and push a rod through it.

I hate it when people try to seem smart and correct me on terminology when I'm shooting my SKS at the range. It's retarded. Every gun enthusiast knows mag fed SKS's are illegal.

Sorry, I'm bored. Mag fed SKS's are not illegal. There are conversions to allow SKS's to use AK mags (plus grinding down part of the bolt). Also, the Chinese Type 68 is legal in this country (3 round burst deactivated of course). It is an SKS with a longer barrel, longer forearm, a burst sear, and is fed by detachable 15 round mags. They are often sold under the name SKS plus "Chinese" or "Chinese Special" or something else because people don't know what a Type 68 is.

Well I guess while this thread is resurected, I'll add that I don't like people calling suppressors silencers. You can't silence a gun, only suppress it. I actually scraped the word silencer off my springer suppressor just because of its incorrect terminology.

Well...in german, you don't have that problem...its Schalldämpfer, and "dämpfen" means "to supress", so its sound-supressor

hehe

but in English, ive allways been into both but thx to your adivce, I will now use only supressor.

I used to call it a silencer too from all the video games I use to play. But two summers ago I did a little week long "cop camp" thing. One day we took a field trip to the police department and they had a few guys show us all their gear. One of the kids walked up to the marksman and said, "I thought silencers were illegal". The officer replied, "Then I'm in no trouble, this heres a suppressor." a-grin.gif

I know about a 100 places where you can buy detachable 30 rd mags for an sks. They aren't illegal.

Suppessors aren't illegal in most states. You just have to purchase a $200 class III tax stamp.

Yeah, I think California, New York, Massachusetts, and Hawaii all have banned them. I think that's unconstitutional, but...

Before you know it those big city panzies (referring to the hippies/most political leaders) will have all health clubs closed down claiming it makes obese people feel self-conscious about themselves. It's pretty rediculous.

Errr...anyways, didn't know that about suppressors, I thought they were illegal exept for law enforcement use. Oh well.

the proper terminology would be magazine, a clip is exactly like in the picture, used for loading bolt action rifles. its pisses me off when people say clip. im like wow when did you get a mauser? or a 1903 springfield? or are you talking about what my sister uses to hold her hair up? a hair clip? ooooooh you meant a magaziiiiiiiine!

Idc what anyone says I still think Catch 22 is a good band, and even though Tomas left for Streetlight manifesto you have to think to yourself, "Sweet, now I got two good bands to listen to!".

What's people and their sigs? Honestly I don't see what the hype is all about. Oh and CA MP5A4.
