Ok, I've noticed that people on ASF have shared numerous tips on attacking, defending, sniping, and CQB. But I've also noticed that nobody ever talks about stealth. Stealth can often be a major factor in airsofting. Attacking the enemy while they cannot see you is not only safer, but gives your teammates an opportunity to attack while the enemy is confused. So, to quell your (possible) stealthy desires, I'm going to write a brief FAQ on being stealthy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Stealth Walking While walking may not seem that complicated, walking stealthily is. When walking normally, a human either A.) Rolls from the heel of their foor to the toe on the ground. B.) Slams the entire foot down onto the ground. Walking stealthily involves controlling muscles in the legs and feet to prevent unnnecesary motion. One good tip to use it to not only contract the muscles in your feet while they are not touching a surface, but to keep them slightly contracted to allow quick movement from one step to another. Also, it often is much quieter to walk by touching your toes to the ground first, and then rolling your heel down to the ground. 2. Standard Position Being stealthy means not being heard nor seen. So, you want to keep your body as low to the ground as possible. This is often very difficult; you have to be upright to walk. The best position when walking stealthily is to keep your arms in an "L" shape to your sides. Keep your torso facing forward, but allow your midriff and legs to face sideways. Keep one foot forward as usua, but allow one foot to stay sideways AND behind you. This rear foot will give you MUCH more balance than if you keep both feet forwards. Try not to put all your weight on this rear foot, though. One slip, and down you go. 3. Stealth Running As impossible as it may seem, you can run stealthily. You may notice from games, movies, and anime, that ninjas often run with their torso leaning forward and their legs moving up and down, not back and forth. While possible, this takes lots of practice. It's hard to lean forward without falling down. Practice, and hopefully, you should be able to do it. In Japanese, the art of running stealthily is called HAYAGAKEJUTSU. Try Googleing it or something. 4. Masking Noises Part of being stealthy is being silent. Sometimes, you can't help but make noise. But when in a woodlans setting, it's helpful to carry some sort of distraction device. Rocks, cricket-calls, Snap Dragons, anything. Just make sure you set them off AWAY from yourself. 5. Awkward Silences If you happen to make a noise and can't distract the enemy, stay still, and don't move. Well, slash that. Slowly lower yourself as close to the ground as possible. Then don't move. Make no noises, but slowly breathe, in and out. Don't want to let our nerves get to us, now do we? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope you enjoyed my FAQ on being stealthy! It is a FAQ, so ask any questions you want, and I'll answer them. |

I think some pictures would help because im sure you understand what youre saying very well... but I found this confusing...
the stealth walking section... it sounded kinda like doing the egyptian walk while moving in the shadows... but I agree for the most part on the foot control. it is faster to go with your toes first. the extra hinge in the foot allows pressure to be applied in a more controlled fassion, and if you watch a sprinter they run using only the toes and balls of their feet because it allows positraction and less energy is wasted due the heel not touching the ground -------------------- Jayne: Six men came to kill me one time. The best of 'em carried this. It's a Callahan full-bore autolock. Customized trigger, double-cartridge thorough gauge. It is my very favorite gun.
Mal: [Chinese - "The explosive diarrhea of an elephant!"] You offering me a trade?! Jayne: A trade?! Hell, it's theft. It's the best Darn gun made by man. It has extreme sentimental value. It's miles more worthy than what you got. Mal: What I got? She has a name. Jayne: So does this. I call it Vera. |
