Topic Description "asks" it all...
Why do people love the MAG Midcaps? It might be a preference thing but I, with a passion, hate them for 1) Crappy build quality 2) Never come in working... 3) They never hold what they are supposed to... Experiences: 1) Dropped 1, Split in half... - 2nd time, I was running and I "Hit the deck" and 2 out of the 6 snapped... leaving me with 4 2) When I ordered the box, 2 out of the 8 were missing the end cap to hold the spring in place (fixed them though), one of the other ones, was missing a spring!!!! -Did make a good peq box type thing... 3) They say they hold 130, I believe they hold 90-100.... reason being, My speed-loader shoots in about 5 BBs per pushdown, I only push down about 20 times = 100 BBs per mag to be on the safe side and to wear them in... That being said, as I was reloading one I got to the 18th push down = about 90 or so, and the mag pops open... Thinking to myself and saying,"I might have put to many" I counted all the BBs that flew out and counted 85 (lost some). Let it be noted, this all happened with 2 weeks of when I recieved them... Now, don't let this thread sway you of what you want. I might have just recieved one of the biggest lemons of all time... |

My mag mids have gone through hell and back. They rarely misfeed and in order for them to hold 130 rounds you have to take a white rod out of the end of the mag which is beyond easy.

I don't like my MAG midcaps either. My springs get stuck, the plastic seems low quality, and little parts like the feeding lip seem to break off really easily.

1) Crappy build quality 2) Never come in working... 3) They never hold what they are supposed to... Well, did you ever try breaking them in before shoving down 130 bbs down the magazine and probably breaking it? -------------------- I think I'm supposed to have a signature, so here it is. I hope you like it.

I like G&P mids the most. I'm pending two MAG mids in a trade, and I can't wait to see how they do.

Mine work fine. I have a set of AK-74 and a set of STANAG with H&K markings. The HK ones were a little iffy at first, but now work fine. The only problem I have with them now is that I have a set of realcaps with the same markings and occasionally they get mixed up. The AK ones worked fine from day one.

Well, did you ever try breaking them in before shoving down 130 bbs down the magazine and probably breaking it? As stated, I've never put more then 110... And yes, I've broken them in by puting in 50, then taking them out, put in 60, take them out and so on... |

I've never heard of those things happening except for the "not holding full capacity" one. The only thing that prevented me from buying plastic MAG mags is that they lack removable floor plates and I use ranger plates.
MAG recently came out with 190rd metal midcaps, the highest capacity midcaps available to my knowledge. I really want to give those a try but eHobby is the only place that has em in stock and they're around $80 shipped for a box of 5. I don't mean to thread jack here, but has anyone tried out the 190 rd mids? They seem like a great way to keep up against the kids with Hi-caps, but you don't have to deal with winding. Depending on the answer, I'll probably get a batch of those, or some PTS PMAGs (Lower capacity then regular MAGs, but there pretty damn sexy and I hear they feed flawlessly)

ASGI has them.
Only the waffle mags for the AK-47 are out of stock. On topic, the metal series looks promising. I'll probably order some after I get my M14. This post has been edited by jrod227: Feb 15 2010, 07:51 PM -------------------- I'm desperately trying to figure out why kamikaze pilots wore helmets...

I've never had a problem with MAG magazines, but compared to G&P ones, they are pretty low. Still for the price, you can't go wrong with MAG.

My MAG Mids (STANAG) work just fine. I've dropped them on wood, cement, carpet, tile, they haven't even scratched yet. The only problem is that a few of mine are a tiny bit big for my KWA M4 RIS, so about half of them have to be pulled from the magwell while half fall out if the mag release is pushed.
I don't mind that they don't hold 130, as I only load 100 into them anyways. Its a big step up from my AK Lowcaps I was using, although those were metal. The fact that they are plastic means they don't weigh as much, and since they don't weigh as much they don't get as damaged from falling as a heavy metal mag would. Also, they don't dent, and the paint doesn't scratch off of them. -------------------- KWA KM4 RIS -R091100500US

All midcaps need to break in.
Play about 2 games with them and they should feed flawlessly. Mags hold exactly what they are supposed to hold. back in the days, we only had TM standard mags. when the G&P midcaps first came out, everyone talked alot of crap about them cause they treaded them the same way they treaded their standard mags.
That being said. when you first get your MAG midcap, be careful loading them. Cramming 100+ BB's into them for the first time can sometimes cause damage to the spring, especially with a speed or electric loader. if you force the spring too much, you will buckle the spring and there's no recovery form there. at the point, just throw it away cause you ruined it. if they take 130, only load 100 for the first few times to load the mag. you have to wear in the spring. -------------------- "We are trained, pushed & tested... Good explanation, Whorify. Just wondering, would anyone possibly be interested in me buying the MAG metal mids (or someone else) and parting them out? It would be about 17-18 a piece, or at least that's what my guesstimate says. -------------------- |

Personally the only MAG brand mids I have liked are the p90 mids. The build quality is actually good compared to their m4 and mp5 magazines, they feed and work great. The other though, not a fan, I prefer Star.
