Ok, so, I was hoping you all could help me out with this, I have no idea what the differances with all these AEGs are and I can't seem to find adequit answers online. Ok, here's the list:
M16A1 M16A2 M16A1 VN M4A1 M4 RIS M4-s XM117-E2 CAR-15 M733 SR-16 also, I was wondering about these: M15A3 M15A4 SR-25 I know the XM and the CAR are discontinued, but, I was wondering if the CAR was even a real gun, it looks like a child's toy... anyway, I don't understand the differances with all these other than the stock and barrel lenght... thanks. there's just so many, and I can barely notice differances in a few of them... agh... Many have different motors stock. Such as the A1 and A2.
While others have different version gearboxes. I believe the M733 to the A1/A2 have differing boxes. While others have a combination of both. But most are purely cosmetic in the differences. -------------------- ![]() I donate to support this site, do YOU? |

The CAR-15 is a carbine AR-15 used in NAM and stell produced for civlians today. Most of the differences are purly cosmetic.

QUOTE (Agent Hunk @ May 11 2005, 05:24 PM) I may be mistaken. Reguardless its a real gun. And if your asking this becuase you don't know which one to get I recomend the SR-16. no, I'm planning on getting an M733 pretty soon to use as a rifle/smg and an M4 sometime to put a box mag on and use as a SAW. But, I'm interested in knowing what all the differant componants are, like the motors, mechboxes, etc. Just to make an educated decision. |

Armalite AR-10
Armalite AR-15/Colt M16 Colt CAR-15/XM-177 Colt M4/M4A1 Colt mod. 635 Knight's Armament SR-25 United States Navy Mark 12 Mod X Special Purpose Rifle I love that site. Official Colt Website Those are some differences in the real-steel guns. TM's are basically just the barrel length and stock. But there are also differences in the gearbox. Like the M16 VN gearbox doesn't fit in a SR-16 receiver. Also, the assembly of the outer barrel, hand guards, and flash hider is different in most of them. M16A1
XM177E1/E2 CAR-15 M16VN These are all early Marui AEGs, motors are all EG700s and version 1 mechboxes. Good guns, just a little outdated. CAR-15 is purely civilian weapon terminology, such as AR15 and the such. The CAR-15 and XM177s are out of production, nobody sells them any more. Also, the VN M16A1 has the ver. II mechboxes. M4A1 M4A1-RIS M16A2 SR16 M4-S System M733 All of these guns are the new run of TM Armalites. Great weapons, sturdy(have barrel wobble, but it is so overhyped. I turn the handguard ring on my M16A2 about once a month, and its as solid as a rock.) All of them have the EG1000 motor and version II mechboxes. No barrel wobble on the: M733 M4-S System SR16( I have heard of wobble and no wobble, so kind of a toss up here) All of the other guns you mentioned are Classic Army( the M15s). CA guns are a bit finicky when compared to TM AEGs. CA are great guns, just require more TLC and AEG know-how. They come with EG1000s, ver. 2 or 3(depending on the version of the gun) steel gears, and are pre-upgraded to around 315-330 FPS. Know the SR-25 is a custom gun I believe. In real steel world, it is a semi-automatic, Armalite based .308 caliber sniper rifle. In this weapon the SR stands for sniper rifle, in the SR16 I belive(about 99.99% sure on this) it stands for special rifle. I have only seen retailer customs and conversion kit SR-25s. They usually run around $450+ and it depends on the retailer what the internals are. Unless you convert your Armalite into one, then in that case the cost and internals vary a lot. Hope this helped, and great choice on the Armalites. Just so you know... since you have expressed an interest in GwG... We have a policy against box mags unless you have a true SAW like an M60, M249 or RPK... and depending on how you utilize them, we also discourage hi caps. |

Heh... I just noticed that you're from Chicago, Thomme. I'm from NW Indiana myself.
The M733 and the M4S (as well as the MP5-J) are a new type of sturdier, "reinforced" AEGs from TM. This "reinforcing" began with the M733, when TM realized that barrel wobble was turning many people away from their Armalite series (and towards CA, ICS, etc.). |

G&P now makes a very good quality, all metal SR-25 which shoots 360+ FPS stock. They also make the SPR/A.

Why don't they just redo their entire line of Armalites? and what are the differences between version 1 & 2 mechboxes? and the motors, the EG1000 and EG700. I can't find the answers concisely anywhere. |

TM didn't just redo the entire line because of variety. It was a much smarter move to produce guns that no one else has, like the M733, Sr-16, and the M4-S system. Why spend much more on just making the same guns, although slightly better when you can come out with things the competitors havent?
I really don't know the exact answer to your gearbox question, but the higher the number of the gearbox, the better the gun probably is. For instance, a version 1 gearbox is just the first generation of bodies for that gun. A version 2, is the second generation. And there's also a version 3 I believe. I'm not totally sure about all of that though. I do know that version ones probably arent as good as veresion threes. And the larger the number for a motor, the better. A version 1000 will have a higher ROF than a 700. This is what I had collected when I just started airsoft (I wanted an AEG back then.) So I may be a little off. But heck, at least I try, right? |
