Hello. Well, today I got a few parts of mine that I was going to install into my gun so decided to make a guide, since there is not one yet on ASF. Here we go...


THE GUN-

The MP5 is a somewhat complex gun to take apart, but its certainly not impossible. There are many steps to taking it apart, and I am going to guide you through them.



STEP 1- ACCESSORIES REMOVAL

A good thing to start off with is taking off any scopes, optics, supressors, mags, etc. from the gun. Also, Shoot the gun in semi a few times and unplug the battery. This will make it easier for when you take apart the gearbox.




STEP 2- STOCK REMOVAL

In order to take apart the body of the gun you must take off the stock. First, start with unscrewing the pin and pulling it out-



Next, if you have a the A5 stock, move it to about this position, but not locked in, and pull it backwards-



It can be a bit tough if you have not taken it off before. Also pay close attention to the orientation of the two small pieces that keep the stock from sliding off-



STEP 3- REAR SIGHT REMOVAL

Next, I like to remove the rear sight. First, loosen the screw on the side a bit, but do not take it all the way out, as it is not necessary-



Next, take out the screw in the top completely and the sight should come right off-



STEP 4- COCKING TUBE REMOVAL

The next step is removing the front cocking tube. Start with taking the hop-up lever out. The little rubber ring can be a pain to get out, so I use a knife, it is much easier then using a screw driver-



Now turn the gun over, and take out this screw-



Now, nothing is holding the cocking tube in place. You should be able to simply slide it forward-

STEP 5- BODY PINS REMOVAL

Now your gun should look like this-



Your first step is going to be to unscrew the screw in the selector switch, shown here-



Now pull off that half of the switch, and push the other side down and through the gun with a skinny screwdriver-



Next, Take out the pin in the front of the body. Take after you take out this screw it should slide right out of the other side-



Now you have to take out the mag catch. Unscrew this screw and it should also slide right out-



Here are what the pin and mag catch look like for future reference-



STEP 6- MOTOR REMOVAL

Taking out the motor is a pretty easy step. First, you have to unscrew the two screws in the bottom of the grip. Be careful, these are easy to strip, and if you do you will a hard time getting them back in-



Keep the baseplate and motor height plate together, if you lose these you are pretty much screwed-



Here is the motor inside the gun for future reference and re-assembly-



Unplug the motor clips and take out the motor-

STEP 7- TAKING OFF THE GRIP

Now you have to take off the grip of the gun. Start by taking out the screws at the bottom of the motor housing, shown here-



Now it is unattached from the rest of the gun now, and you can carefully pull it off. Watch for the little black piece that falls out, this is a key component in your selector switch. Do not lose it-



Here it is taken off completely, with the wires still in though-



STEP 8- TAKING APART THE UPPER RECIEVER

On Tokyo Marui's there are 3 screws that must be taken out. Two are in the same place as the hex keys in this picture, and there is another one in the front of the gun. The reason I do not have a third screw is that I have a Classic Army metal body, which does not have the third screw-



Now, simply split the two halves and your gearbox/hop-up are shown and easy to get at-



Before taking out the gearbox be sure to disconnect the wire in the back. This makes it easier to move around-



And Eureka!!! You can now get to your gearbox and do what you wish-

Cold weather and an upgraded spring haha... I also had to fix my semi auto function, I forgot to put in the little spring that goes on the selector plate last time I took the gun apart...

Wow, what a pain...

Sorry about your gearbox cracking.. that sucks.

I thought ICS's took down like TM's (I guess not exact clones)

But the upper on mine, slides forward after removing the two main pins..
Then, 2 motor screws & fire mode switch removal free's the gearbox from
the lower...

No need to split the upper body in half like that.

Nice review! I would recommed that you shoot the gun atleast 2 times befor you take it apart. The reason for this is because when the spring has tention on it it could be very dangerouse opening up the gearbox, it is even worse if its a upgraded spring! Also, the spring will were out the inturnals if you don't do that.

Can someone post the difference between this takedown and that needed for an ICS/AE MP5A4?

The lower receiver slides back from the upper.
That means you don't have to split the upper to remove the gearbox.

But if you want to do barrel/hopup work, then you do.

Just wondering. will this screw up your gun in away way, shape, or form? I want to know before I try.

If you follow the guide, and remember where everything goes, then you should be fine. Re-assembly is basically this guide but backwards. If you do happen to harm your gun don't come and tell me that its my fault though...

oh, and so if I wanted to pur in a PDI 150% spring upgrade, could I just take out the spring and spring guide, and pop in the new spring and put the old spring guide back in and then just put the gear box lid back on...or is there more to it.
I don't want to hurt my gun (its a ICS mp5)

I watched the video for this and It was great help guys if you haven't taken about your aeg before I'd try it but not if it's not broken I'm glad I worked on mine personally that way I atleast learned how to do it...

great guide does this work for JG mp5 clones?

I am currently doing that atm and yes it works but splitting youll have a really hard time. I almost broke the body twice ill post pics if I can find my camera.

there are 4 pins that make it tough to separate the body. my method when I found that out was to wedge a screw driver as close to the pin as possible and slow work it apart, the one in the mag chamber is really hard to separate in my case. all in all the pins are there for sturdiness which is pretty kool JG is good quality.

btw I worked on the MP5SD6/5 since I swapped the stocks so I could put the battery in the full buttstock. The MP5SD6/5 are identical in a lot of ways except the grip obviously.

please help me I just took that bottem plate where the moter is just to look at it now when I shoot it somtimes it loud and somtimes I just like whines

you might need to take it out again make sure the screws in the pistol grip are tight then put the motor back in making sure everything connects right then when you put the end on make sure both screws are tight.

don't forget the motor spacer you NEED that part. its a round disc that allows you to set the spacing with the allen wrench. it might have slid off.

looking everywhere for a dissassembly but only found tm guides

can anybody help me?...I'm taking an echo 1 MP5 apart and I got the 2 screws out for the body but it doesn't want to come apart on the top by the rear site...

Alright so like a couple guys I'm wondering how to take apart an Echo 1 mp5 (I'm personally using the vector arms mp5-a4). I've found that unlike the TM model the hop up isn't a rubber circle like in the picture but a lever further back. there's a screw there too and I don't know how to remove the plastic guard sitting there. It seems that if you follow these instructions you may get to the point that this is the only screw left. I'm still looking for visible screws but if anyone with some experience in this comes on please help us.

alright I found out how to disassemble an E1 mp5. It's ridiculously tedious. Unlike the ICS body which allows for you to slide the gearbox out from the rear after removing the stock (full or collapsing, doesn't matter), E1 built the body to block that. Take some sort of buffer (I use a screwdriver because the handle is soft on the parts but hard enough to get the job done) and use a hammer (preferably a rubber mallet) to lightly hammer the middle plastic piece between the barrel and the top part. The top will dislodge (the friction on mine was particularly difficult so I didn't notice it before when I tried by hand) and then you can also remove the bottom. Be sure to remove the false cocking lever though. To do that unscrew the screw holding the lever and pull said lever out from the side. Now you can remove the two parts I mentioned. Be careful of the two plastic tubes that will fall out; they encase the fake lever you just removed and must be replaced in the same facing you had before or they won't fit. Now you can get that Darn screw next to the hop up (easily reached on the TM, it seems) and remove the body. The rest of this guide is the same, other than a screw placement (or lack thereof, as I noticed on my own E1).

Edit: on a side note I didn't know at the time of writing this whether or not double posting is not allowed. I just didn't see an edit button on my old post and figured in the interest of improving this thread I could double post.

theres something wrong with mine, I took the motor out and put it back in but now whenever I shoot my Mp5 it whine like crazy, I have the little metal circle thing, and the wires are all connected but it still makes a loud whining sound?

any help?

I also have the vector arms mp5 ras I have been searching this forum for help and I think I may have found it here :]. Okay so could anyone tell me what I need to remove and carefully how to install a tightbore on my mp5? im deathly afraid of killing my hopup or anything else while doing it. And since there are so many topics on the echo1 mp5 maybe someone could post a thread or link on how to disassemble it?

hey youmight need to adjust the motor so it stops wining, take a hex screw and put it in the little slot on the pistol grip and turn it left and right while firing till the whining stops, hope this helps

This is a great thread, its really going to help me to upgrade my gun for the first time, thanks. But when you put the upgraded spring into your gun did the new spring fit right into the piston head did you need to do any modefications to make it fit? Or do all springs fit into all guns without any problems? Thanks.

That is part of the locking mechanism that keeps the A5 stock from sliding completely off the gun. It's not entirely necessary, but with the small metal spring its pretty simple to figure out how it goes on the gun.

And I'm glad my thread is still helping people, I've since quit and now am re-entering the sport (:
