Hey guys. I am hopefully gonna start a VSR sniper project in the next few weeks. Its something I have always wanted to do, and I can finally afford it now with a summer job and all. Now, my current parts list is:

Now what I am wondering is, are the PDI parts better than Laylax ones? I have heard yes, but yet it seems like so many people use the Laylax parts. I do see a fair amount of people having trouble installing their Laylax parts and with their parts in general, but I'm fairly sure its just because of how many people use the parts. As opposed to PDI parts, which almost no one uses. So, what are your opinions?

Also, while I am here, I had a question about the Zero Trigger. Is there any special modifications that need to be made to the body for it to fit? I thought I remembered hearing something about it with the Bar-10, but I am not sure if this carries over to the VSR-10 as well.

I think the PDI vs Laylax thing is personal opinion. I have not heard of anyone comparing both from personal use so I think which ever someone chooses they believe they are better; without even trying the other brand.

The fitment problems people have with laylax parts is most likely due to the VSR-10 clones, not the laylax parts. I have a vsr-10 G-spec with almost the exact build as you except a 170sp. Everything went in smooth no modifications needed.

However you do have to cut off a piece of the trigger guard for the zero trigger. Its a straigth cut and is easily done. Other than that every thing should be a drop in fit.

Also, I was thinking about going with a 170sp, but I'm worried it will exceed the field limit of 550 fps. What kind of fps are you getting with the 170?

Good to hear everything went in without a problem. And I can cut that piece off the trigger guard no problem.

I have not had the chance to chrono it. However im pretty sure you will be over 550. Probably averaging around 560.

Ive had both set ups. My Laylax one was exactly like yours, but like the other guy, I was also using a 170. It chrono'ed around 555 to 570 on occasion. The parts were nice, but I had a large amount of variation of fps. Also, the Teflon on my cylinder started to wear off. I didnt really like the piston much either. After a lot of use, the foam head started to get eaten away at the sides and eventually came unglued off of the top of the piston.
All in all, the Laylax parts did the job very well, went in easy, and I was pleased with them. I believe I liked the PDI set up better though.

My PDI set-up I loved. V-trigger with Palsonite VC cylinder set. The parts were much smoother feeling when cocking back compared to the Laylax. My only dislike about PDI is its trigger. The Laylax Zero Trigger definatly beats the PDI V-Trigger. I think a combination of PDI's cylinder set, and Laylax's Zero Trigger would be my ideal set up. Then of course add a banging barrel set up.

not sure if you're still there, but I have done quite a bit of researching on airsoft retreat, and I have heard good things about pdi and laylax. If I were you, I would look into Noobie's M trigger on airsoft retreat. he custom makes them himself, and they are getting fantastic reviews. (people say they beat the zero and V triggers) to give you an example of the strength, one guy has the pdi ss5000 spring(strongest on the market) and the M trigger, and it is holding up at 827 fps. this same person's gun is accurate out to 400 feet and he has an almost exclusive pdi build. Noobie also makes custom hop up arms and reinforcement pieces. another cool thing he makes is "anti-blow-by" rings, which make a perfect airseal around the bucking, therefore maximizing velocity and consistancy. anyone who dosen't believe these things should check out the sniper's perch section on airsoft retreat. I would really reccomend checking out ASR to anyone who wants the most up to date info on sniper rifles. the dudes there are constantly improving things and pushing stuff to the limit. I usually use ASR, and all of the people there have taught me a lot. so many of them have awesome do it yourself modifications and custom parts that will help squeeze every last bit of performance out of a rifle.

p.s. I've also heard great things about EdGi's other parts, though you now have to order them straight from him in the filipines. also, ben, Edgi's u.s. retailer is now making parts under the name of polarstar airsoft. hope this has all been helpful, and hope you check out airsoft retreat.
