story: I got inspired to do these shots after watching 1000fps vids on youtube, so I set up a simple rig in my backyard consisting of water balloons, and a wooden stool.
gun used: brother's echo1 g36c (Currently fs here) shooting 350 fps with .20 ae's.
equipment used: canon 400d with sigma 70-200 f/2.8 at 200mm. 1/4000 @ f/4.5 iso400

the victims

awaiting execution

aaaand hit

we went through about 20 balloons or so, these are the ones that came out the best.

you can see the projectile in this one

and good ol explosions

and late shots

and last but not least, my favorite.

we're gonna try it with a coke can tomorrow and more balloons. enjoy!

Awesome. some nice glass you're shooting through!

Have you thought about setting up a strobe and syncing it up? It would help some of those water droplets to really shine.

What were you using as a trigger? IR, Sound, rigging a remote to the gun?

I'm also curious about the equipment. A friend and I did some stroboscopic stuff with me shooting a Santa Claus Pez dispenser. It took a LOT of tries to get it right.

he's asking about trigger for the camera.

I don't have super expensive equipment like that yet, in fact, this was all done with high day light.

I had my brother (who was shooting the gun) count down 3-2-1-fire. as soon as he said, "1" I pushed down on the shutter of my camera hoping for the best.

I cant believe that the bb would hit the balloon, then pop it, then have enough energy to still fly back some. Thats some crazy stuff.

Oh, A+ on the photos. How many total did you take to get these results?
What type of camera are you using?

actually, the bb would fly all the way through. what you're seeing is actually a second or third bb flying into the balloon. maybe 2 out of 5 times, a balloon would need more than 1 bb to pop it. most of the time, 1 bb blew up the balloon. I probably went through about 200 shots, give or take, it was pretty interesting to try to get the timing just right as it was all human work, no timers or computers involved in the picture taking process.

A bit of a necro, but no mind.

I've gotta try this. I've done it before with old tomato soup cans and .22's, but it didn't work great.

Or better yet, milk jugs filled with water. Add red food coloring and take pics. You ever seen a milk jug hit with an AR or Mini-14? Killer!
