Ok, so you've got bbs and a gun. One bright weekend, as you sit on the couch wathcing Saturday morning cartoons, the phone rings, and its your friend inviting you to play your first airsoft war with them!!!
So you get your stuff, and head over to your friends house. When you arrive, you are greeted by a buch of veterans and newbies alike sporting holsters, assualt vests, shoulder rigs, aegs, gbbs, you name it.
They say everything is going to be fine, but you are already doubtful (and intimidated). You are assigned to a team, and in the first game you walk out the open and catch a couple of rounds from an ICS MP5 AEG. Next time you refuse to move because you are to scared, but when a guy with KWC USP GBB charges you, you run in panic and get mowed down. Next game you surrender the next time some one gets within 20 ft of you. Next game- hold up and rewind. Feeling a little bit frustrated? Well, so are the people on your team!!
So far, you've done nothing what so ever to help your team! Airsoft is all about team work and tactics, so listen up and use these tips:

1. The most common tactic employed against newbies is the charge. This is when someone runs straight at you and scares you out of your bunker. This terrifies most newbies, but when you think about it, you have a massive advantage!!! HE is totally out in the open-presenting you with a perfect shot, and YOU are behind cover with a perfect aim on him!!! You don't want to run!!!! (I cannot stress this enough!!!!!) If you run, you will get shot from behind. Another thing newbies do is if the opposition makes it to your bunker, they freeze up!
This may sound ridiculous, but it happens. Instead, if you find yourself sharing a bunker with the enemy, pop out and shoot him!!! Always be alert. The thing that your enemy is counting on is that you will run away and give him/her a perfect shot at the back of yur head. If you don't do this, you can easily get the opposition out!!!

2. The surrender. This what most newbies do if an enemy gets anywhere near them! Believe me, there is nothing that frustrates your teamates than when their "cover fire" surrenders!!! Think how you would feel if your support surrendered without even getting shot, leaving you all alone! It is not a great feeling... So next the enemy comes at you, pop out and engage him in a firefight!!!

3. DON'T shoot at an enemy that is out of range. It makes for an un-fun game. If your enemy is across the street 100 ft away, YOU WILL NOT HIT HIM/HER!!! You must accept this. I wastes your ammo bigtime.

4. Reloads. Hopefully, your playing in a game where you cannot get shot when you are reloading. But if your not, here are some tips:
A. The enemy can't know that you are reloading!! They might charge if they do.
B. Just because you have to reload doesn't mean that you have lost the game! See section 5 below.

5. Practice before the game. Find out your guns range, power, and how to reload it. It helps to parctice accuracy (target shooting) and reloading BEFORE the game.

This all may sound easy, but it's actually pretty hard on the field. If you keep all these tips in mind and use them and don't be scared, you might end up getting what I call "The Newbie Advantage". All your friends think that you will do everything wrong in your first few games, so they don't regard you as much of a threat. This means if you use these tips, you can easily win the game for your team!!!

But the biggest thing you can do is keep your cool and not panic!! You will be surprised how much it will save your butt on the field. It will also save you from a lot of yelling from your teamates afterwards. So, whatever happens, it will help to keep your cool! Always be on your feet, and always be alert!

I haven't seen any of those things happening on the field to first time players (besides them shooting at somebody who is out of range). ...and a stock AEG will shoot over 100 feet.

I'd omit the part where you mention "Shooting at someone accross the street". This may infer that you, a VETERAN, is playing backyard airsoft. We know someone of your prestige and expirience would never do something like that, right?

Wait... what kind of street is 100ft wide "if your enemy is across the street 100ft away"

I wouldn't want to be caught reading a topic with that kind of description, but this is nice.

Well, sorry about all the short-comings... and on the 100 ft thing, CruelShadows5252 is right about that just being and example. If there's so much contreversy on that subject, I can just delete the sentence... Oh well.

Wha...? I've never played with anyone who was afraid to get hit and surrendered when someone got near them. Is this like for 10 year olds?

I have seen it it was so stupid the kid saw the guys back had a clear shot but he gave up I dunno it was funny but.

why would you rush a newbie a newbie might rush someone but rushing a newbie is pointless cause even though they may be infior they usualy can atleast hit somthing. it is much easier to sit back just in range and wait for him to come out or till you get a team mate to flank him.

I do aree with 3 some of it. but yeah across the street sounds liek front yard airsoft.

and that makes me so mad on the field when I see newbs shoting and im like " dude they are out of range stop shooting." but by then they hear shooting and start shooting at us.

when it was my first time to have a war with my friends I was scared silly but after I got shot at a few times I realized that I had to get my head in the game. I found that in my first few rounds I clung to a more experieced player. This is an ok thing to do if you are new because it helps newbs get used to the battle but after a few rounds you need to let your "mentor" go. Also I found that as a newbie any kind of cover helps allot so if it is your first time try to find some cover and hold your ground

That seems pretty good for first time young players, or those with absolutely no experience whatsoever...

In my unit we train our newbies... We split our unit up and run the newbies with vetrans, and swap out partners occasionally so they can learn more...

We concentrate our efforts on basics of Camo, movement, firing, reloading, accuracy, a wide variety of tactics, and more battle drills you can shake a stick at...

Currently we're training two new guys and are taking our time to train them correctly so when we go out on our next major egagement the newbies don't get slaughtered right off the bat...

Things I would add are cover and concealment, firing while moving, setting up an ambush/defending against one, tactical withdrawl and regrouping, functioning as a team (after all a team is only as strong as it's weakest member), and definately preach more on battle drills before an engagement...

One thing I might suggest is that before the game, shoot yourself or have someone shoot you. Usally the newbie is scared the crap out of being shot. He/she can't sleep for day just for that. Just shoot them once, and it will also help them a lot. One time we were playing with some new guys, and they kept whinning abotu being shot, so I pulled out my GBB and shot them. he cringed like a baby and all his friends laughed. he did way better in the game. Also, explain rules to them clearly or after the refery tells them. Most guys just think their legal reason and blah blah and are to excited so get bored. I know I was, so I didn't even know the rules. Just breif them after to make sure they get it and set an example.

my friend we play around the house he gets a porch and I do to and we cant go off. so im trying to hit him and I get hit in the face or head what should I do. he has pistol I have shotgun

Yeah one time I was going against my little brother and my cousin (both Newbies) and my cousin randomly surrendered and started walking back to the house but when he passes me he starts punmping rounds into my back so watch them Newbies they is crafty
