I have used these tactics myself and I have even gotten props from the Ref's.

Part 1:The Gun
If you want to be very stealthy, you need to buy a good DMR and upgrade the spring. It is best to have the highest FPS allowed, but you still need to be able to take someone down at a close range. My best bet is around the higher 300's such as 370+. If you buy a gun that has one of those big ugly orange flash hiders, you need to buy a solid black flash hider or a silencer. Having slight ghillie on the barrel and other shiny black parts is a must, or you can tear it apart and give it camouflage. If you play long and close range matches, you'd want to buy a red dot sight, otherwise you should by a red dot scope. REMEMBER: DMR's are NOT cheap.

Part 2:Equipment
Mid cap mags. Nuff said.
Hi caps make too much noise while moving.
Most people recommend full ghillie. Don't. It is EXTREMELY hot and uncomfortable. Buy camouflaged boots and a hood preferably, to break up the head's outline, which is the most recognizable part of the human body. If you want to, you can buy pants just in case. Depending on where you play, dark brown and green clothing is the best. Using black rounds makes it harder to follow.

Part 3:Tactics
Stay low. It just may save your life.
Walk silently. I suggest on rocks or the balls of your feet.
One shot. One kill. It only takes a round.
When you fire your round, immediately go prone, lay the gun down, and put your head on the ground.
Do NOT fire as soon as you see them. Wait until they have passed you and get them from behind.
Watch for stragglers and loners. If a squad sees you hit one of them, they will open fire.
Get cover. Lay prone behind a tree and some bushes.
Do NOT stand up. You open up your entire body.
Find a target. Use a monocular or someone who can radio you locations.
Get high. Not on drugs, but on the side of a hill. Sicko.
If you don't think you can make the shot, don't shoot.
Moving. As soon as you kill four or five people, fall backwards to a safer spot. Enemies will eventually find you.
If you are spotted, tell your teammates and run like hell. But stay low.
Tell your teammates. Nothing is worse than going down to friendly fire.
    Keep your breath shallow.
Buy a fog proof mask or wire mesh.
Enemies move faster than your rounds can travel.
If you have a shirt, make sure it's digital. The human eye reacts slower to digital for some reason.
Be on the lookout for counter snipers. Following these tips make you a prime target for it.
    Bring LOTS of magazines.
    Finally:
Fire when there is other noise to counteract the sound of your mechbox.

If you follow these tips, you can scare the everlasting sh!t out of your enemies.

I hope you found or will find the tips at all useful.
Happy hunting!

Great tips, going to be using them this or next weekend!

On ghillie suits... I think they make Ghillie BDUs, which sort of combine a regular BDU and a ghillie suit. Most of the ghillie is on the arms and there are small bunches on the front and back. Seems like a nice alternative to a full ghillie suit.

Well put, but I disagree with one thing. After taking the shot, do not move. If you have missed, or they are in a group, then they will be on the alert for any movement. Wait until they have stopped looking around and are facing the other way to readjust and take another shot. I also have an addition.
2. Fire and retire. You said something similar, but move every time you take a shot. It gives the illusion of greater forces, and makes you harder to locate.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice that all replies have been necros, even from each other
