We've all been in this position. You have nine or ten on of your guys, and can clearly see a small team of the enemy behind some cover. You easily outnumber them, but if you cross out into the open they will clearly mow you down. What do you do? You find a flank.


"The Four F's"

• Find
• Fix
• Flank
• Finish

Find The Enemy
This, being the first "F" is probably the most important. Find your enemy. Try to find out how many there are, what kind of cover they are using, what sort of weapons they are carrying, any intel. you can gather, get it. This should be done as silently as possible. You don't what your enemy to know where you are until you are ready for them. Once you figure out what the conditions are, get your squad into position.

Fix 'Em
After your squad is spread out, send your fire team to some decent cover, and tell them to open fire on the enemy when you give the command. Your assault team should be ready to move. Knowing when to send them is key. If your enemy doesn't know that you are there, you can try to send them before your fire team even starts to shoot, or you can have the fire team open fire, and send them in after the enemy is suppressed. Either way, give your fire team the open fire signal and tell them to pour it on.

Flanking
Send your assault team to a position on the other team's flank. Speed is the key. Don't send your team halfway around the field just to find the perfect flank. Anything will do, as long as your guys have some cover. If possible, try to stay quiet. Most people are to caught up by the fire team to notice that the assault team is standing next to them.

Finish 'Em
Now that you are on the other teams flank, finish them off. Leaders of an assualt team should mark targets for other men. "First on the left, second on the left, third on the left" and so on. Open fire on the enemy and make sure no one makes it out. Grenades work well also, if you have them.

Regroup
As soon as you have eliminated the imidiate threat, regroup with your squad. Sqauds shouldn't be out of the sqaud leaders sight.

on the flanking group do?

Hm...considering he's a 'squad' sniper (probably has an AEG with a scope, preferable auto), I would probably make him lead intel gathering. Also, instead of laying down surpessive fire, he could make sure none get out of the turkey shoot lane (firing zone) or guard flank.

Great article! I just have a small detail to add. Through my military training, I was taught that after the assault team has flanked, the fire team also assaults through. This is done for a few different reasons. It protects the team from getting counter-flanked. I personally would feel very stupid if after executing a perfect flanking movement, got mowed down because I didn't set up a perimeter afterward and then plan my next move from there. It also allows a final clean-up if there are any survivors that fell back from the attack.

Personally I would send in the assualt team to flank first, silently, if they have not been seen. This is because as my experience in ambushes, after the first 45 seconds after the fire team starts shooting people start thinking if there is a flank or an ambush. This happens in alot of my airsoft matches.

yeah thats exactly what I was thinking. having the assault team move up after laying down fire helps even if the others fail at flanking them.
