How did you all decide what role (assault, support gunner, etc.) you wanted to be?

I just use whatever gun I want to for that day and be that role. I have multiple load-outs that are interchangeable for different roles.

Try playing each role a bit, then decide. Almost everyone ends up being rifleman though -_-. Agreed, if you can though, see if other people will let you try out their guns for specific roles. That way you don't have to waste $90 like I did to learn that sniping isn't your style. -------------------- My New Sale of AEG's, NBB's, GBB's, and Wonderfulness

Try playing each role a bit, then decide. Almost everyone ends up being rifleman though -_-. Agreed again. I started out as a rifleman and I wanted more of a challenge where you had to pick and choose your shots so I bought a bolt action and love it very much. A) SL tells you what your role is
B) You try out each role separate and decide which you enjoy most C) You find a gun you like and apply it a role you think it would perform most effectively in D) You play Call of Duty and decide you want to be a 1337 sn1pz0rz |

Just find out how you play, what you like, you're favorite guns, and your good to go. I liked rifles, so I became a sniper. however, I bought am aeg and start getting a feel for the game first.

I am with AZN on this one.. Try them all and then decide. It def does help to have the correct gear/guns to fit each roll.
Also don't put yourself in a position where you are limited to one thing.. I have yet to play in a scenerio where rolls were important.. So also let your game types dictate things or at least use that info when buying stuff. Good Luck.. -------------------- ![]() The Harder I work, the Better I live..... I played a modern warefare 2 and now Bad company 2 for the 360... so I based it off how I like to play....
plus I used to play paintball... do you want to be in the thick of it, or do you want to lay back and be a sniper and wait on people? So you wantt o play field or CQB? I have a circle of friends who ll play so sharing guns isnt a problem to try different loadouts,... |

I too played MW2. Since I snipe the most in that game and although assault gunning is fun and all, I find my meat and potatoes in a sniper role.
Let it be know that airsoft guns designs and limits make stock sniper rifles not be too good, but once they are upgraded they can be pretty effective. Like in real life, sniping takes a HUGE amount of skill. -------------------- I virtually drain the confidence out of the enemy

Thanks for all of the input. My dilemma is that I can either upgrade my BAR 10 to a godly sniper rifle again (don't ask what happened the first time), or I can get a brand new assault style AEG with the accessories I need. Problem is that I don't know which to do. I love being in the front lines with my team and assaulting the enemy base. But I also enjoy taking extra long shots and hanging back a bit. Any ideas?

Designated Marksman. Get a DMR (designated marksman rifle) platform and upgrade it. That way you can move with your squad, but take longer ranged shots.

My team needed a SAW. So I went out and bought an A&K Para. Loved the role, and the fear and respect that goes with it.
I've been switching through support machines, but my role has generally stayed the same. Right now, I'm barely a support gunner though. I doubt a minigun counts as a SAW... |

I actually run two roles - a midrange rifleman, then a SAW/CQB/trauma-enducing P90. High speed builds are extremely fun, and when you do it right, it will make jaws drop.

Upgrading a gun to DMR status costs, more or less, as much as a fully upgraded sniper rifle (I believe). Upgrading a bolt action sniper rifle to shoot 550+ fps reliably can cost around $300-$400 in upgrades. I have heard that it can cost a lot more then that to get an AEG up to DMR status, but that might have just been people giving the price of ideal parts that are crazy expensive. |

In a sense, but I don't drop $500+ on my rifle. Just money into the hop up parts. Exactly what I did P4. I have a G&G M4 I upgraded the barrel and hopup in and I call it my GPR, General Purpose Rifle. Essentially it's a 350 FPS longer than average range rifle with around 20 RPS so it can still lay down pretty heavy fire and it's plenty maneuverable and CQB friendly while still reaching almost 200 feet. So I guess I would just call myself a rifleman, and boy do I love it! -------------------- ![]() QUOTE j0ker: EYE DEFIE SPEALING PM me to suggest ideas to Crosman! We can make a difference. |

Usually, if the stock hop-up can put consistent spin on the BB, an upgrade will not give more range. It may keep the BB from curving left and right to farther ranges and make it more accurate out to farther ranges but adding a new hop-up will never increase how far the BB goes. In the end, when the BB leaves the barrel, it isn't about how the hop put spin on the BB it is about the direction of spin on the BB and the speed the BB is rotating in that direction.

what about Hop down? lol I had this lpeg that spun the bb forwards. and it'd shoot out of the barrel the proceed in a violent curve downwards...so in fact, RD, most hop-up increases bb range-that's true-but it really depends on the quality of the hop up chamber/process/method.

To be honest, in airsoft, once you're playing, it doesn't really matter what you say you are. If you are in a sqaud, often the leader will assign you a position, but mostly, when your playing all the roles run together, and the only ones are Rifleman, Sniper, and medic. Support gunners often just become rifleman with a support gun. Designated marksman? I've never really seen one in airsoft -- they really become a rifleman with a longer range gun.
In MilSIm type OP's I've been in, teams were split into squads, each squad with 9 men. There was a Squad leader ( a rifleman), Medic, and one support gunner, everybody else was just a rifleman. Of course, that's just my personal experience. Yours may be different. This post has been edited by King Five: Mar 20 2010, 07:36 AM -------------------- Shepherd6

^^^ The truth. I've never played a game where the DMR/Support/Demo/Sniper stayed in those positions. Well except maybe the sniper. If our sniper was using a true semi auto or bolt action, that person never went head to head in gunfights. Ususally that person just picked a strategic position and we even had one guy that'd just call out enemy movement but rarely shot. But that changes with the game scenario too. Sometimes our medics get nothing but a pistol to defend themselves. Sometimes the support is fortified and used as a defensive position to guard a common path or area instead of suppresive fire for the team.
All said, I think you'll just have to decide if you like runnin and gunnin or layin and waitin! -------------------- ![]() |
