I just realized that my gun has a V3 gearbox, not a V2.

Is there any large difference in upgrade parts?

Shell, trigger assembly, spring guide, tappet plate, and cylinder head are different.

Gears, spring, piston, piston head, cylinder, anti-reversal latch, and bushings are the same.

Air nozzle depends on which AEG you have.

The JG M4-S has a VERSION TWO type gearbox. The "version 3" crap you hear means that it's the third version of the gun that has been released.

v3's are good for high fps upgrades and metal piston heads while the v2 doesnt take that stuff very well
and you don't have a v3 soo....

He means that V2 gearboxes don't handle high fps or metal piston or piston head very will due to them being so prone to cracking.

Differences I've noticed in my experience:

V3 is a lot stronger
V2 has more upgrade parts
V2 has a slit behind the cylinder area so you can see the spring
V2 has a thinner top area
V2 has a weak front end
V3 and V3 use the same: Gears, Cylinder and head, Piston and Head, Spring, Bushings, and I think the AR Latch (although they appear different in my two AEGs)
V2 has more aftermarket shells
V3 has a metal slide over the top instead of screws

And some other stuff I don't remember right now

Version 2 cylinder heads work in version 3 gearboxes, but some version 3 gearbox cylinder heads don't work in version 2 gearboxes due to a protrusion on the top of the cylinder head.

The slit in the version 2 gearboxes is so that the upper receiver prongs can reach the lower receiver so the pin can lock the receiver down.

The bushing and bearing size depends on the make of the gearbox itself and varies from 6mm to 9mm.

I've seen equal upgrade parts for both... am I hallucinating?
I have FS threads on Airsoft Barracks

BTW, I appreciate being PM'd back. Only about 10% of people I PM do the same, the rest I have to assume are just awful people.

Version 2 does have more gearbox shells.

Gcommando listed upgrade parts and aftermarket shells separately, so I win!

So a gearbox shell isn't an upgrade part?

in anycase, it doesn't matter, version 2 gearboxes do have more aftermarket parts by far.

I have a reinforced (not prowin or some other bulletproof box) v2 gearbox in my m4 (or m16, whatever it wants to be that day). It takes 440 fps just fine in single fire, even burst mode, and an aluminum piston head. They aren't as prone to cracking as people play them to be. Now if you unleash a whole hicap mag at 440, your box will crack LOL

Lorelei - M16/M4 DMR - 430 fps - Temporarily 334 (.25g) fps for cqb
Letje - G&G G2010 - current primary - 325-425 fps :: G2010 Info Thread
Lola - JG Bar-10 - 495 fps
Luisa - KJW M9 - A glorious combatant
My rather small arsenal!

I'm hopping that's right, but I keep reading contradictory things about that.
Example: the 2009 models say "version 3", so if it's the 3rd version... why do they say that for the 2010 model as well (you'd think that's the 4th version as it's been upgraded once again with more metal parts). To make it the more confusing, some sites list the 2008 model as the "version 4". (I know, no Version 4 gearbox, right?)

This is from where I bought the gun...

I guess I'll find out the hard way when I try to install: nozzle, spring guide

It's a V2 GB, not a V3... They made a typo. They say it's a V4, but it's a fourth generation of that gun, with improvements made over the third generation. I think the TM PSG-1 uses a V4 GB, though.

It's a V4, medium type motor.

This is what I use when I can't remember for sure. Pretty handy. :) (click on common gearbox types)
