OK, for the purpose of this post I'm going to be calling front rails that fit on between a delta ring and a handguard cap RIS, and front rails that fit on a replacement barrel nut and float free at the front sight end RAS.

(1) RIS. As far as I can see, there are two styles of RIS, (a) those that fit on JG, Echo 1, TM and SRC models, and (ii) those that fit on just about everything else (G&G, G&P, KWA, ICS, CA, etc. etc.). These latter use a "real steel" style delta ring assembly. Most but not all after-market RIS are designed for (b).

Example of (a): http://www.airsoftgi...roducts_id=2371
Example of (b): http://www.airsoftgi...roducts_id=4593

(2) RAS. Typically to install, you need to undo the barrel nut and screw on in its place some kind of fixture to which the RAS then mounts. Compatibility issues occur when the thread pitch on the new fixture that replaces the barrel nut does not match the pitch of the threads on the front of the receiver. Brands of AEG with possible compatibility issues include G&P, KWA, and (?) ICS.

I have read posts where people simply remove all the paint from threads or do some gentle dremelling into order to achieve a good fit. Otherwise, there is a special tool that can be used on the receiver's threads to regrind them to the usual standard. For example: http://www.airsoftgi...roducts_id=4264

Example: http://www.airsoftgi...roducts_id=3058
Example: http://www.airsoftpo...oducts_id=26617

Presumably, G&P front sets fit on G&P receivers just fine, but what I'm less clear about is whether the compatibility issues work both ways, that is, are there any problems in putting, say, a G&P RAS on to a standard receiver's threads (G&G, CA, Madbull, whatever).

Other questions: are there any other brands than the ones I've mentioned that have the kinds of compatibility issues I've described, and are there any other kinds of compatibility problems for RIS or RAS that I have not mentioned?

G&P uses imperial threading instead of metric as on CA, TM, KWA, Clones, etc (or the other way around lol. All that matters is that theyre not compat) Ive seen many people with no issues on g&p sets, but then an equal amount with trouble. best thing to remember is that g&p + g&p = good.

ICS people have issues rethreading. Positive on that one.

KWA has the same threads as TM, CA, etc.

1) Both of those ris systems install the same way by reading the description apparently, an RIS system that takes the place of the handguards. the A&K looks like a tradition 2 piece ris, which is a direct drop in on standard m4 handguards. I don't know why the echo1 would be any different...

2) explained above.

Hmmm. It's just that I've seen threads like this on the KWA forum, in this case somebody having difficulty installing a Noveske rail, and Allizard recommending the Madbul re-threading tool.

If KWA uses standard airsoft threads, is it just a question--like other things KWA--of them having tighter tolerances than other manufacturers, and then some after-market products, not made to those some tolerances, not fitting well? Or??

BTW, is King Arms imperial like G&P? I think I read that somewhere.

Its a pain in the censored2.gif to rethread an ICS M4. Required a good hour with an AR Wrench, AR15 barrel nut, lube, AR15 Upper Vice Mold, Vice, and a strong arm.
After that, my AR15 delta ring fits pretty well. Still a bit tight, but it holds my MOE (PTS/ACM) handguard perfectly. Much better than the standard ICS/airsoft delta-ring.

Hm, there shouldnt be an issue, with my first gen kwa upper I installed an acm rail quite easily, so I don't understand why theyd suddenly switch the uppers on 2gx if anything.

It could just be higher tolerances, Ive seen KWA's with a bunch of aftermarket rail systems however.

King arms is standard unlike g&p =]
