I have only slightly heard about G&G's M14 hybrid gearbox. I was wondering if someone could give me a better explanation on why exactly their verzion 7 gearbox is considered a 'hybrid?' I appreciate the info.

The G&G M14 came out about a year before the Marui M14 design did.

Tokyo Marui AEG designs have been the industry benchmark for years. When they release a gun, they assign the next gearbox version number.

Before both the G&G M14 gearbox and TM V7 design there was the ASC (AirSoftClub) M14. There is also the Star SOPMOD M14 gearbox, which has a motor in the grip. The motor is about 6 inches long...

Side note: None of the mags from the ASC M14, G&G M14, and TM M14 are compatible.

It is hybrid because it uses some V.3 parts such as the spring guide.

It is also hybrid because it uses
V.2/3 gears
AUG Hop up
AUG air nozzle
Proprietary tappet plate
Proprietary anti-reversal latch
2 8mm bushings (on Ver. IV M14)
4 7mm bushings (6 on all versions besides Ver. IV)
V.3 Spring guide

(I think):
maybe proprietary cylinder/cylinder head

It also uses a short motor instead of the long one on the Marui Ver.7

as well as it looks different and the mags aren't compatable

Spring Guide - V3 Spring Guide

Spring - Normal AEG Length

Piston/Head - V2/V3 Piston and Piston Head

Gears - V2/V3

Bushing/Bearing size - 7mm for the spur and bevel gears, 8mm for the sector gear.

Cylinder -V2/V3

Cylinder head - V6

Air Nozzle - AUG Type (which means it also takes a AUG hopup)

Tappet plate - looks like a V6, but I have to confirm that myself.

Motor Length - Shot

Trigger/Contacts/Wiring - Custom trigger/contacts/wiring assembly specific to G&G M14

Cutoff Lever - Custom cutoff lever specific to G&G M14

Gearbox Shell and/or Motor Cage - Custom shell specific to G&G M14, uses a motor cage that hinges (CA uses a fixed motor cage, so the designs between the two are slightly different).

Anti Reversal Latch - V2/V3

Cylinder head - V6

Have you confirmed this yourself? I only ask this because when I was upgrading a G&G M14, I was trying to find a cylinder head to replace the stock one, and talking with the G&G M14 gru's on this forum, the said the only one that works is the aftermarket one made by G&G seen here. If you have confirmed that the V6 indeed works, then that is awesome and we not have another options for parts.

The Tokyo Marui version 7 gearbox uses a short motor.

I will eagerly await confirmation on this. AFAIK, the G&G cylinder head you linked is the ONLY one that will work.

It's compatible with the one from my old p90... Some v6 heads might need slight modification, but for the most part they are the same.
