Thought I'd share photos of my build after realizing not everyone browses over at Arnies (speaking of which, the complete documentation of the build can be viewed here: http://www.arniesair...e...87516&st=0).
I built this fully intending to use it in my Viet Cong loadout which explains the 1960's Chinese markings on the gun. Essentially though, it is exactly the same as the original Russian built SKS as even those came with spike bayonets sometimes. Previous recorded builds using AEG or NBB mechanisms relied on using the cheap, shell ejecting, spring action SKS as a base which was too inaccurately built for my taste (only SKS fans would really take notice). So I had to start from zero, scaling parts individually from pictures and reproducing them as best I could resulting with near realistic take-down and operation. I'll just post photos of the finished item here as 6 months worth or gritty, sweaty work isn't exactly pretty to look at; you can just visit the link above if you're into that.

And now, the SKS.

The gun itself is mostly made up of PVC plastic as you can see everything colored blue in this unfinished pic:

The parts that need to be extra durable are out of metal: outer barrel (scavenged from an M14), top cover, magazine cover, pins and latches. The rear sight and butt plate are real SKS parts. The only airsoft parts used are the M14 gearbox, inner barrel, outer barrel, modified hop chamber and Marui shotshell magazine.

Ah, I saw this a while back whilst surfing the net. Back then when I saw it the project only had a finite amount of things built.

I'm currently doing an SKS (using a Chicom stock, but not gonna do a bayonet) that will use a modded WE-tech Hicapa CO2 mag in the receiver with a DAO hammer to strike the valve and fire the gas directly behind the BB's in the Cyma AK hopup. Mine won't look as nice as yours, though (mind you, I'm using bent and cut sheet metal for the receiver and an AK front-end).

Outstanding job there. Any chance of selling kits?

Holy :pain:. Who do I send my money to?

My SKSese is a bit rusty, but is that a Tula Arms marking?

I have FS threads on Airsoft Barracks

BTW, I appreciate being PM'd back. Only about 10% of people I PM do the same, the rest I have to assume are just awful people.

I'm currently doing an SKS

I think I saw a video of it on youtube, where you load the CO2 at the back of the top cover? Pretty clever, that. Really wanted to make this a GBB at the start, but nothing readily fits unless I use AK gas mags, but that would be an SKS-D. Will unlikely make any more of these as it takes a whole lot of work to make. Maybe if I could find a machine shop that could copy the parts in aluminum.

That's a factory "26" marking in China. Most Chinese factories (there were over 150 or so at the time) had their mark as a triangle with the factory number inside. Tula had a star with an arrow inside and stamped on the top cover.

Yeah, that was me. I've decided to revamp mine to look nicer and use shotgun mags for more realism in mag-capacity, along with the fact that I'm gonna try to have mine be semi-only. If my semi-auto version works, I'll be making a second one with a Tapco Fusion stock with select-fire capabilities.

What sort of tools and machines do you have for making this? You're sitting on a serious gold-mine here even if you just sold plastic-body kits or did it as a custom kit. Lots of Russophiles in airsoft will go nuts over the idea of an airsoft SKS that isn't a springer made of WEAK plastic.

Tools used were: (power tools) jigsaw, angle grinder, router, drill. A dremel would have been handy but I've busted mine a long time ago. Also used plenty of hand tools like a planer, chisels, and sanding implements.
