Well, instead of getting an ICS M4, I am now thinking of a TM Type 89. Since this gun has a new gearbox (Version 8) design, does anybody know of any problems with it? Or with the gun in general? If I plan to upgrade the gearbox, will it be able to pull a more powerful spring, such as an upgrade to 350 FPS?
Thanks for the help.

But the gun is also extremely new. If there are problems (not saying there are), we probably wouldn't know about them quite yet.

its a few years old, been in service (yes service) with the japanese for some time as a (anti riot weapon??) training tool, because it is similar to the real one, hence the metal body. there just isnt alot of after market parts. I think it takes normal upgrades like bearings, springs, shims, gears, etc. but I'm not sure.

It came out to comercial retailers a month a go. I also (recently) heard of it being a police training weapon a few years back, I think its another good addition to TM's lineup.

EDIT:I thought V8's arent upgradeable...

The V8 may not have any problems yet but the three round burst feature is very tempremental, and thats caused alot of trouble with other guns in the past. Hopefully TM will have hammered out the kinks.

3-round before was done electrically, on the v8 it is done mechanically.

Really? how'd they do that? Something like how a Turn signal works?

I'm guessing it uses a gear timed so that it would activate the cut off lever after the gun fires three shots. That is what it looked like from the video, at least.

The "version 8" gearbox is actually a modded version 2 gearbox. So upgrades should arrive soon.
Here is a website with pics and the 3 round burst fuction from inside.

Oh, so it is gears. I thought it would have been something along the lines of how a turn signal works, but that would just be too hard to fit into a gun, which is obviously alot smaller than a car. Gears make alot more sense, more sense than something electrical.

Awesome link, ive been waiting to see that box.

Looks like the bevel gear has a different and more efficient design, it seems like it would require less shimming.

I'm not one versed in gearboxes, but if this box has similar dimensions, and similar design, will it be able to drop into a previously V2 only gun?

I currently have a highly reinforced UTG MP5 that is barely a UTG anymore. Shoots 350-360 FPS with a great ROF. PM me for details if interested.
