  1. Nope. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2010/05/04/xm8-mp5grenade-launcher-hk417s-weapons-of-the-royal-malaysian-navy/ And apparently this was either 2009 or 2010 when they adopted it. Looking at their other selections, it seems like they make their armament purchase decisions based entirely on what videogamers consider awesome. --Cassy
  2. Hey, I can't speak to APS blowback systems, but MOST single-gearbox blowback systems have the false bolt carrier connected in some way to the piston. I can't get a good angle on the one in AirSplat's images, so I can't really tell if it's the same for them, but it appears to be. Since I can't see for certain how it's set up, this is just a guess... but, you should be able to just mill off a little piece of the piston to detach any assembly holding the pseudo-bolt carrier to the gearbox. After that it looks as though it should have standard gearbox dimensions. Judging from the open shell image, you may simply be able to detach the fake BCG from the piston without tools, too, but I can't say if that would give you enough space to fit it in an SRC receiver. Give it a shot, all I can really say. --Cassy
  3. I know you said you won't list everything, but perhaps you could look over my WTB topic and see if there's anything relevant in the batch of stuff your buddy is selling you. http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/topic/290650-wtb-your-unusual-guns-and-externals/ I might be a bit slow (paycut plus other things I'm buying from people) but I'll generally pay good money for interesting items. The more interesting, the more I'll willingly pay. --Cassy
  4. Having a boyfriend who loves "space guns" like the XM8 and the AUG, and who made a poor decision to get the UAR, I need to insist that your best bet for a space gun would be an AUG, or making a body mod for something more.... dependable. The AR-15 platform AEGs out there are a great start point, but there are many others you could use as your basis without undue issues. If you don't trust yourself to be able to do good body mods on an AEG, then look up aftermarket. The AUG has a few different aftermarket kits. My boyfriend particularly likes the "Phantom" kit floating around, with a gigantic, apparently integral suppressor. There's a lot less appropriate aftermarket for most platforms, but look up the MP5 "Swordfish", and keep in mind that kit can be fit to a G3 SAS or MC51 with relative ease. Some sanding down of your AEG of choice may be required to fit the appropriate Laylax Rail Sleeve. If even that isn't good enough for your purposes, consider modification of bottles and the like around your household. I've been thinking a LOT lately about using a (PROPERLY CLEANED!) gasoline can as the receiver of a cyberpunk-styled bullpup, for example. These sort of modifications are semi-permanent but generally require nothing but cleaning, cutting, folding, and gluing. There's a lot you can do with a bit of creativity and some regular hand tools. EDIT: By the way, Guges is not strictly correct about the XM8 in one respect. It was adopted in 2011, I believe, by Malaysian special forces. It looks as though it has been modified since its inception -- for example, the buttcap of the compact carbine now extends to become a collapsible slither stock, where before it was fixed in position (making it mostly useless). --Cassy
  5. Thank you, but the S-Thunder launchers aren't similar enough to the AABB/Ultra Force launchers. The latter have a very highly raked grip angle -- pointing with them is a lot like pointing with a regular hunting rifle. It also gives them a very different sort of appearance despite having a lot of the same basic building blocks. This is important, because... well, there's not any other way to say it. The S-Thunder ones are ugly. Hideous, even. Again, thank you for the attempt, but I'm just not interested in the (very commonly available) S-Thunder launchers which look and feel entirely different from the ones I'm after. --Cassy
  6. My boyfriend's got this gun. I'd recommend thinking about how much time you'd like to spend debugging issues that shouldn't exist. Among other problems: 1: Without dremelling out a spring in the area between gearbox and mag well, most magazines will not feed in this gun reliably. Expect jamming. 2: Take the gearbox out? Accidentally move the selection switch? I hope you like losing semi-auto! Easy to fix, but shouldn't even happen. 3: About that fire selection: take off the top cover of the forward receiver? Say hello to all sorts of issues, including a completely jammed selection switch, damaged selector transfer plate, and all sorts of other, completely BS issues that could have been avoided by putting a rail for the fire selection transfer plate to ride in. You can modify one for your own purposes, but I hope you either like Gorilla Glue or messing with polymer. And forget about it going back together properly afterwards, unless you dremel out a segment for the new rail to sit in on the receiver. And you'd better paint that unless you enjoy the whole ghetto AEG look. 4: Taking the thing apart is an unnecessary pain -- not only is it held together with pins that would be ideal on their own (very similar to receiver pins in G3's, MP5's and other CETME style H&K guns), it's also got a bunch of unnecessary random flanges and nubs that prevent you from taking it apart cleanly and simply after pulling all of those pins. 5: Stock performance is solid (IF you discount the magazine well jams and other frivolous crap) but underwhelming, as TheRealQD mentioned. It's got an above average ROF, but an extremely disappointing range combined with FPS too hot for CQB purposes. Overall, I can't see a reason to get one unless you like the idea of a project bullpup, or REALLY want an airsoft MSBS Radon. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSBS_Radon -- Oh, and yeah, it's not a design specific to airsoft, if that's a selling point. It's based EXTREMELY heavily on a nearly unknown prototype Polish bullpup -- about the only things unique to the airsoft version are the purely aesthetic elements.) My boyfriend is constantly kicking himself for getting it. --Cassy
  7. I'd love to do that. I'll set aside some of my coming paycheck for the whole thing. Out of curiosity, what project was it going to be?
  8. Hey, I tried reading through my old topic and it was a massive pain to read. It's also been inactive for weeks, so... Here's the deal: I want your rare, strange, unusual guns. I don't accept anything that is too weak to be skirmished. I don't accept guns in non-functioning condition (exceptions for those that are easy and cheap to restore, ask me first!). I don't accept Polarstar or HPA-rigged guns unless the tanks are cleverly hidden inside of the gun. If there's a line running to the magazine, take it away from me. As a point of reference: if there is more than one company with a given model of airsoft gun in active production, the answer is probably no, with one exception: if there are only two companies, and one of them is ARES. To clarify further, if there used to be a ton of companies making a given model of airsoft gun, but it has EXITED mass production from every one of these companies, it does in fact have my interest. I also want your unusual and weird externals. Think twice before you offer these -- I have a tendency to want things like prototype AR-15 things (triangle charging handle, etc) or out-of-production First Factory/Laylax kits. If you can purchase this stuff on any of the obvious airsoft websites, it's probably a no. Here's a nicely laid out list of things I would like. I'll accept things not on the list if they fit my criteria, unless I already have them or just don't want them. 9. The only issue with fabricating it is I don't have anything to go off of. No good images exist of it and half of mine is missing. That's why I mentioned plans for making one -- as in blueprints or a traced outline or rough measurements.

  11. Hey, So I got a A&K M1892 from a member of these forums. It's beautiful, works like a dream, and seems to be using a real 1892 barrel for the outer barrel. It's got one issue, and one issue only. A part of the trigger assembly broke. Now, I looked this up and this appears to be fairly common due to poor material quality in a high-stress component. The fix involves having the original piece there, which is impossible for me: it's broken, and one part is forever lost in the sand of our back yard. To make matters worse, the hammer is now jammed in the cocked position until I can replace the thing. I was wondering if anyone had a replacement A&K M1892 part #33 or the plans to make one. I'm damn near inconsolable at the fact that it's broken, and I've had it for less than 4 hours. If anyone can help me out with this, I'd be forever indebted. Thanks --Cassy
  12. M4s are popular in airsoft for the same reason that AR-15s are popular in real steel, and M4s are preferred over M16s in airsoft for the same reason real-steel trends are moving towards SBRs. In order: They're insanely modular -- have a selection of uppers and lowers, mix and match to suit your requirements. It's a nuisance to carry around more metal than is absolutely necessary in an active setting such as military missions, 3-Gun Competition, or airsoft skirmishes. I'm no fan of the things myself. I feel like they're boring to look at unless you go to the retro AR replicas. But you can't deny that a short gun which you can turn into whatever you need for a given mission has its appeal. Don't get me wrong: M4s are going to lose ground, eventually. But I believe when they do, they'll be replaced by something not too awfully different. Modularity in airsoft and real-steel is a BIG draw. It's been the entire point of latterday military programs. The G36, XM8, G3/MP5, Val/Vintorez/Vikhr, etc -- these are all guns that have multiple variants for multiple roles, and the differences between the individual variants are relatively minor. The big issue with these is that the only options to modify them are the ones the manufacturer(s) give you. Meanwhile, the AR-15 platform has such a wealth of variety out there for it that some of its aspects have even been standardized on, such as the pistol grips and the buffer tube-style collapsible stocks. Hell, some guns are even beginning to support its free-float handguards wherever possible. This means you can set your gun up to the EXACT requirements you need -- where someone with an MP5 will have the options of "assault", "infiltration" and "personal defense", with the limitations of very short range and no stopping power against armored targets, someone with an AR platform weapon can choose to reach out and touch somebody, with a suppressed gun, that is compact enough to keep (in two parts) in a regular suitcase. M4s will go out of style eventually, yes. But you'll see the spectre of the M4 haunting airsoft for the rest of the time you play, because it, like its real-steel grandfather, changed everything. --Cassy

  15. Hey, Snow Wolf products are to be avoided if at all possible. They're just bad. My boyfriend got a Snow Wolf M99, and it's just... there's nothing good there. You can't really upgrade them, either. Look for a JG BAR-10 or similar, that actually uses the VSR-10 system instead of a proprietary modification to that system. Even a WELL L96 would be sufficient (APS system, plenty of upgrades out there). You'll save money and can put that toward a nice scope and bipod, or possibly some internal upgrades. --Cassy
