Looking for a good AR platform

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get into airsoft to better train with platforms the same as what could save my life one day. I'm looking for an AR platform rifle with a 16-20" barrel, a rail or not doesn't matter to me this will be a K.I.S.S. rifle. I want it to have mid to long range accuracy with great reliability. I also don't want to have to be doing a bunch of modifications to get it to preform. I'm willing to spend $500 on just the gun. Also the AR needs to be metal no cheap stuff that feels like a toy it can also be gas or electric but I don't in any case want a remote line. I'll only do gas if the mags charge like the one I had when I was 12. I would also love a Springfield XD gas pistol if anyone's knows of someone who makes a good one. If not an XD I'll be looking at other polymer striker fired type airsoft pistols so I'll take suggestions on those as well. I've looked around online at the krytac rifles and I have a feeling that is the direction I'll be getting steered. Thanks guys and gals.

All AEGs have good mid-range accuracy 60 yards, if you clean the barrel and put in a good hop-up packing (if it needs it) you can reach 80+ yards

Do Not Assume that its metal its HQ. Alloys vary from maker to maker and some of the alloys by one maker is worse than polymer, its brittle.

A no fuss platform would be a VFC, G&P, Krytac and E&L. You cannot go wrong with that platform.

There are only two makers of the XDM

WE and TM

TM unit is far better, slide is polymer but that is not a bad thing. It's TM.

I have one TM on the shelf that came in 2 weeks ago. Yours if you want it.

I can also pair you up with a prototype E&L.

A very specialised custom build semi auto AEG could approach ranges of 100 yards ,but would be pretty ineffective in an Airsoft scenario. Most Airsoft engagements take place at much shorter ranges due to the nature of the guns and the environments that take place in.

Airsoft is a game, and shouldn't really be considered as any substitute for training, although some techniques crossover. The only way playing Airsoft is going to save your life is by getting you out in the fresh air and getting some exercise. If you want to develop weapons proficiency then join the forces.

Are there any semi auto platforms they can reach out to 100 yards without much problem?

In Airsoft...there is no such creature when it comes to AEG's.

There are for Gas...but they will exceed your budget.

I can move my budget to whatever I want really to just figured since I can get a real AR-15 for that price I'd be able to get a killer airsoft for that much and being we're about to close on a house the wife wouldn't be the fondest of me spending over a thousand on a gun but I'm the one who makes the money and I can easily hide the cost if need be. Do gas guns have further range and higher accuracy? I may even consider a high end sniper if I have to get done decent range and accuracy. I'm used to real guns where reaching out to 400 yards isn't a problem so I just don't want to get super frustrated with my airsoft gun because I can't hit anything.

I think perhaps you have an unrealistic expectation of what an Airsoft gun is capable of. At the end of the day you're firing a lightweight 6mm plastic ball out of a smooth bore barrel. It doesn't matter what the power source is, physics has the final word.

Snipers will have the advantage of a higher fps limit at most fields which gets you perhaps an extra 20-30 yards of effective range. But when you consider that at 90 yards it's quite difficult to remain concealed ,and that an opponent with a full auto weapon will be able to close your range advantage in a few seconds, that perceived advantage is actually a handicap due to the single shot. Being an effective sniper takes a lot of skill and awareness of how Airsoft works.

In Airsoft if you aren't hitting anything then it's probably not your gun... Get closer, be tactical and simply learn to be a better player. At the end of the day it's a game. You don't get 'kills', you shoot a dude with a small plastic ball and he holds his hand up. There is no life or death, just a bunch of guys running around the woods with toy guns. ;)

Yep...^THat.

~8 grain Round balls at 450 fps spinning backwards to induce the Magnus Effect to reach a target at 80 yards is very different from a bullet at double, triple or up to 7 times the speed and shaped like a "bullet" at say 55 grains and an axial rotation is a very different beast.

You guys are completely misunderstanding what I'm saying. I understand there isn't an airsoft gun out there with the ballistic anywhere near any real gun even a pellet gun. I just want an airsoft gun that can reach out to 100 yards being in going to get into milsim and I was hoping to find a semi auto airsoft platform that can do that. I've had an airsoft gun before some of the younger members of this forum were born but transitioned to paintball in probably 2000-2001. Looking to get back into airsoft for the exercise and the practice clearing rooms and working with small team tactics for if the world ends. I'm a little old and have some health issues that prevent me from military duty so I can't serve as some have told me to do.

This can hit 100 yards with the proper gas and heat.

back 4 years ago...we had one at a field in 90 degree heat and ET-1000 gas.

With a .29bb (SGM) it hit 484fps.
